There isn’t a standard , it depends on the story. Some do 1500, some do as much as 5000. I do around 3500.
Then there are Asian words, which when translated to English can be counted more than 10K+ There is really no average standard for a chapter, unless you are trying to go Pro and be a part of a publishing company then it's a different matter.
Depends on how often you plan on writing and releasing chapters. If you don’t plan on releasing chapters until you’re done or really far ahead, then I would suggest fluid word counts with a focus more on ending chapters during scene changes and when it feels right. Once a day would be like 500-2000 I’d say. Once every other day 1500-4000. Once a week 3000-10000. Once a month 3000-50000.
I’d say it also depends on what type of genre you are writing. For eg historical non-fiction should probably be a long chapter. Where as if it’s a “sleazy romcom” then most likely it’s acceptable to have your chapters have under a thousand words in them. Just open some random books in a books store and have a look. But those were Properly Published. The stuff you see on Wattpad or RRL will have probably much more different chapter sizes. Then again, what chapter length you, as a reader, enjoy most?
The most recent chapter I translated was around 5700 words~~ That's a good amount to get the plot moving quite a bit but not toooo long. It actually feels like you've been sitting reading awhile and enjoying yourself unlike many webnovels these days that you can finish in like... 3 minutes... lol. but, if you can't fill up the word count, don't force yourself.
You should just write what you like for now because it will blur "the word count" and sometimes it will go over or under a certain number and in the future when you have more experience on writing chapters with varying word counts then you should choose on what fits your style the most. Remember word count varies from author to author .
while I was writing my novel the word count differed by chapter as I planned a certain structure to my story. It really depends on what your writing sometimes you get inspiration as you write and want to add it immediately, but that is a no no write it out first see how it plays out first in a separate paper (not actually a paper just different doc, word, office ect software your using.) while I finished my book I went back and read it and noticed most of my chapter were from 2k-2.5k per chapter 300 chapters. sometimes ppl make a huge mistake in pacing your story they end up with rushed ending or things no one can explain because the author skip through it to force the plot to move. if your making a story try writing 2-3 chapters see what works for you.
If they did something like that you either have to wait for a long time, or if it's done quickly it would be filled up with tons of filler garbage, making the read almost unbearable.
Jack went FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER up the FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER hill, FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER and found FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER Jill eating FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER.
I just started writing a story. I decided to write a short story where each chapter is only about 500 words. I don't have experience so I just wrote what I was thinking at the time. Not much filler though.
I personal think 3k+ solid longer chapters without filler are one of the best ways to present your story
agreed, that amount is just nice. but wordcount itself is irrelevant, planning each chapter thoroughly would be better. i'd rather read a short chapter that's filled with content than a long chapter of boring conversations (nothing).
