Personally I don't willingly listen to any music that's produced outside of Japan, or in the circles that have been created as offshoots from stuff in Japan. I've conditioned myself since I was about 13 to only enjoy music of that sort, and haven't really changed since then. Anytime someone tells me about a song that has come out since then, I usually have no idea unless I was around someone who listened to it out loud. Anyways, I'm just wondering to what extent are you like that? You may be nothing like that, or even further than I. Answer above in the poll.
Nope.... Don't listen to them that much... Cus I don't understand em.. But even then I listen to some of them that I like.... With subtitles
In the past i like to hear many songs as long as it fit my taste and from jp was Hatsune Miku's songs, but nowadays i rarely listen any song
Do English songs from japanese composers count? Or something similar like Hiroyuki Sawano’s Inferno or FEH soundtracks.
somewhere between 90-100%. except for a small few exceptions, i dont really listen to any mainstream western music anymore. all the real mainstream stuff (especially pop and stuff) really starts to sound the same after a while. i like JP music because, not understanding the lyrics, i can really feel the actual music itself (the beat, rhythm, etc) and the variety is much deeper than the big mainstream western music.
If you asked me a few years ago, I'd say 95% (Vocaloid). But right now, my playlist is around: 30% Vocaloid songs (or made by Vocaloid producers) 30% Kpop 30% Western music 10% BGM or anime OSTs
I listen to metal mostly. Then comes old rock(60s, 70s, 80s ok I'll add 90s here too). Finally Korone and Pekora singing is cute so when i catch their singing stream I'll listen to it.
Whenever I watch a new anime and I like the OP or ending songs, I'll add them to my spotify playlist. like Jujutsu Kaisen's Lost in Paradise Ending Song. Sometimes, the Discover Weekly playlist also recommends great songs like Yoasobi's Yoru Ni Kakeru. Otherwise, I sometimes listen to Anime Now Playlist on spotify whenever I want a new song recommendation. so maybe I guess 30% of my songs are weeb songs? the rest are either korean, english or some other language
Mostly just the ghibli sound tracks occasionally for Japanese music, I listen to mostly metal, rock and alternative when I put on music.
some animu ost, yes. and some bands such as sstp and oor. lisa, eve, sou, dustcell, and recently yoasobi. some of their songs suits my genre pretty much hence i listen to jp songs esp when im reading bc idk, their songs became a bg music or sumth
Depends. Do you consider Hiromi uehara the trio project japanese or multinational? I still like touhou jazz band like Tokyo active NEETs, but honestly... I don't care much for nationality. I don't really listen to current pop music actually. A large part of the library of music that I listened to doesn't have understandable vocal too, as most of them are BGM, jazz arrangement, etc. So, even if you say Japanese music, can you consider FictionJunction's chant as japanese music?
mix backthen when this cat active played console games most of music was games ost and bgms these day just old song
I'm a very seasonal(?) person. Around 6 years ago my playlist 85% is full of JP music as I follow manga and anime very seriously. Then Around 4 years ago it's mainly K-ballad and drama OST. Then recently it's more into CN music side as I watched CN dramas. Currently it's about like this: 45% Korean(mix between OST, K-Pop, & ballad) 35% Chinese & Taiwanese(mostly OST) 6-15% Japanese(anime OST or just random songs I like) <5% others(western or local music)
Very close to 100%. About 85-90% vocaloid and the rest are non vocaloid and some instrumental rock mixed in
I have a handful of Western Songs and a handful of Vocaloid songs in my folder. Then I have a bunch of anime songs in general. Then another bunch of game OSTs, most being from Japanese games, but some from Western games too. And then there is a lot, but a LOT of Original Touhou BGMs and Touhou Remixes. I think about 80% of my songs are from Japanese origin, though maybe it might be around 90%.
About 10-15% for me. I don't really listen to JP songs regularly unless they randomly come up on spotify(common). However I do sometimes spend nights where I can't sleep listening to them occasionally
