it may differ from person to another but I personly enjoy listening to novels rather than reading them
2 things I want to say first
1.I don't own either of the apps mentioned in the description nor em I trying to advertise for them
it's just they were the best among the readout load apps in my humble opinion .
2.all the apps mentioned are free , but they contain ads .
    **************************************
and here is the way to listen to novels on google chrome or on your android phone
    first on pc/laptop

    1. have google chrome (obviously )
    2. search for "TTSXReader google chrome add-on"
    3. download it and it should automatically integrate itself into your browser
    4. you'll find a small icon at the upper right corner of your browser like a voice icon
    5. open the page of the novel you want to listen to
    6. press the voice icon then press the play button
    7. enjoy listening to the novel
    *************************************
    as for android
    1. open the appstore
2.download an app called "@Voice aloud reader (tts reader)"
    3.open google chrome
4.open the novel you want to listen to
    5. from the upper right press the three points above each others
    6. from the list choose share
    7. from share choose the app mentioned before "@Voice"
    8. the app should start then load the novel page , you will find a big play button at the screen press it
    9. enjoy listening to the novel
Also this android app can let you listen to pdf/epub formate books which can be very helpful at listening to novels offline or without internet so you could listen to your novels anywhere anytime

I generally prefer reading. The process makes you invest more of your attention and gives better immersion.

I dont like sounds or music whenever im reading though.

I lock myself in my room and just tell my mum what time do i want to eat or something.
She just leave notes at the door.
I easily get annoyed and its bad for my highblood pressure.

@Beer_Kitty @HamsterOverlord-sama , we agree to disagree , I prefer listening because while listening I could play mmorpgs and keep farming monsters while listening to the novel

That sounds too distracting. I prefer to read and immerse myself in the book.

@MadraRua maybe for you but pressing some keyboards repeatedly will not effect my ability to focus at all

    I love reading \o/

But I also loooooooooooooove me a well performed talking book....it's like being read to when you are sick, only you are not, which is better. :blobokhand::blobokhand::blobokhand:

It also means I can do housework, drive, etc while listening which is also great....like being constantly connected to my favourite books.

I might give this a go sometime to see how it works, but if it is unwieldy I might give it a pass and stick to my usual ways. *waggles my eyebrows*

On another positive note: this type of technology makes reading more accessible to the blind! How cool is that? I love it when technology works as it should.

Audio books - I've tried them but I end up giving up and getting the hard copy instead. They don't hold my attention as reading does. I'm just not a good listener!!! Plus people seem to be able to listen to the book AND do another task like tidy. I'm just not that good a multitasker.

I just make epubs for myself and use Moon+ Reader Pro. It's got many options to adjust the listening experience (such as correcting pronunciations), though it still lack some...
I even listen while cycling, cooking, doing chores, etc. Though, I lower the pace considerably depending on the amount of attention necessary for safely performing the main task.

Having someone read out loud is sometimes a disappointment for me. If they don't follow my thought on how they would speak or that the person changes the words, skips lines, skips a whole paragraph, etc. But there are some people that can read aloud to themselves which I find interesting but very distracting. But I feel like reading would have more imagnation in it than just listening to someone else speak.

... You do know that they're talking about using an automated reader, right? And not having someone read it out loud for them.

Oh, Thank you very much, I've recently gotten into audio books, for the slower, or difficult to get into, or books I want to read but never will on my own, I use audio and listen to them while driving or doing chores. So far I've only downloaded free Epub of American classics (1984 is the most recent one) But now I can do it with Chinese novels too!
