It sounds like you're looking for male MC novels, but one that encapsulates the feelings of "loneliness" and "isolation" for me would be The Wolf Lord's Lady... ...dang that story is melancholy.
If you haven't read it you can try Coiling Dragon. If I remember correctly I think the MC broke down somewhere in the novel. His mother is already dead when the novel starts though
