As the synopsis says the MC does break up with Duke on the first chapter (I don't this see this as some Asian novels don't write it in the plot what was written in the synopsis, they kind of treat it as a teaser on the dynamics between the 2 main leads). The Duke was pretty surprised since she was pretty obsessed with him (before MC possessed Ariel) and she used low handed means to get him to 'fall' for him (like making him smell a love perfume, which didn't work). He also didn't expect her to be so composed and left without turning back after she dumped him. The MC is really skilled on making perfume hence why the Duke was forced to date her because she is the only one that can make an effective scent that calms him down (the MC describes him as a crazy dog if he's without it). So when she dumped him, she promised to continue him giving him the perfume even after their break up. Her father looks down on her perfume skills and considers this as just a hobby. Her relationship with her father is not that great since her reputation in the society is notorious (villainess in a way), since everyone knows her forced relationship with the Duke and that she often used his status in social gatherings and it doesn't help that he doesn't really see her as anyone but someone to sell off to a wealthy noble regardless of their age or morals. So after she broke up with Duke, he immediately forced her to go on a blind date (after he promised to raise her allowance) who ended up harassing her at the date until the Duke who happened to there stopped him and sent him to prison.

When the father heard what happened to the blind date being in prison. He gets mad since he lost someone who was willing to marry his daughter whom he deems nobody wants. He scolds MC about it and doesn't believe MC when she says he harrased her. He wants her to release him and apologize to the blind date (he still intends to marry her off to him) but he backs off when she says it's off her hands since it's the Duke that send him to jail. He immediately arranges her with another man but he's 40 yrs old. MC tells him she doesn't want to marry and that she can find her own financial source to make up for it. The father backs off on the marriage arrangements. The financial source she mentioned is her plans for her perfume business using her perfume skills. She aims to get some clout to get her business running so she goes to a social gathering knowing the 'social queen' of the noble society will be attending. She comes from a wealthy and influential family but she's also a nice person, hence why everyone respects her. When MC is there, a bunch of girls target her and picks on her regarding the issue on her blind date being sent to prison. One of the girls claim that she is his friend and denies that he would ever harass her. Because of her notoriety, everyone looks at her in contempt until the 'social queen' steps in and defends her saying that how she can deny the claims when the girl wasn't there to witness it and that the Duke was the one that sent the blind date to jail hence her words are questioning the duke's sense of justice. Everyone is surprised and the girl gets intimidated after they heard his name, especially when the 'social queen' asks if she's willing to appeal to the Duke. The MC seeing the whole situation finds the society unfair since they put the duke's word over hers. The girl apologizes but the MC doesn't take it since it wasn't sincere and only forced, so she says don't apologize since she feels there is no point doing it (she did that too when the Duke stepped in and the blind date tried to apologize). When they back off the 'social queen' asks if she's okay and says that she doesn't approve of that kind of behaviour. As mentioned she's a nice person so she was being genuine to the MC. Seeing the opportunity, the MC sprays her perfume on herself (it was also to relieve some stress from what happened). The 'social queen' likes the scent (the MC knows her fave flower is lilac a since her whole garden is filled with them). She asks about the perfume and the MC tells her that she made it herself.

Charlotte is impressed but when the MC asks if she would like to try a sample she brought. She said she can't since she has an allergic reaction to alcohol. Luckily the MC has one that is alcohol free. Charlotte loves it that she wears it to social gatherings and brought perfume as the new trend to the ladies. Lots of orders came to the MC so she worked a lot to meet the demands. She and her maid that she only trusts can only make the perfume since any other servants work under her father and would put her in his surveillance. Her father has enough of her so he cuts her off financially. She's chill with it since she has her perfume business. She wants to set up her shop but it costs a lot more than she expected so she wants to look for an investor. She manages to get one interested in her business at another social gathering, his name is Magnus and he's a successful business owner. However, it's clear he wants to exploit her (probs cause she's supposed to be a sheltered noble lady hence she would have no business skills acquired) because he proposes a deal of 7-3 where he gets 70% of the profits and she gets 30%. Ofc, MC ain't dumb lol and rejects the proposal and attempts to walk away. Magnus won't let her go and extends it to 6-4 as if it that'll convince the MC. The MC refuses again, when the Magnus is still persistent, MC's friends (which were Ariel's henchmen as the villainess lol) steps in and stops Magnus telling him that she refused so he needs to back off. Everyone is watching, (so I guess due to his pride) Magnus mocks MC regarding her break up with the duke. The Duke unexpectedly steps in and clears up the rumour that it was actually the MC that dumped him (lol). Everyone is shook and MC gets irritated since no one believed it when she said it but everyone does when the duke says it. The situation repeats when Magnus apologizes due to intimidation and the MC don't take it (lol). The MC tells Magnus that she will never have business with him in present nor future or attend to any salons he owns.

Forgot to mention that Ariel has friends (henchmen) that followed her around. MC for a moment forgot about it when she meets them at the ball (where the Magnus business proposal happened) but she managed to quickly recall them and all their names. It's too early for me to judge if they are genuine friends or followers due to her influence but I like to think they can be friends for real especially since she is rather notorious

On chapter 5 the duke of thinks about the break up 4 days ago. And he feels it's distinct since it was the first time his heart was broken.

This got me lol, cause it made me read this sentence twice like am I reading this right? Lol. I probs get it if he was confused from getting obsessed over then suddenly getting dumped 'cleanly' as the MC describes but regarding how he showed very little reciprocation (as suggested over Ariel's obsessive pursuit of the duke) over the year and a half he was forced in the relationship. It's hard to believe he could be heartbroken since you would need to fall in love for your heart to break. And also he didn't make any effort to stop the breakup (maybe too shook lol). Perhaps in this forum someone may suggest he doesn't know it yet but surely a year and a half is enough time to distinguish what you feel is love or disdain. I feel it makes more sense if he starts catching feelings after he got dumped since he could start getting interested in her change of behaviour towards him. Of course, regardless of my opinions and any discussion towards this, it's too early to judge the duke's feelings when the spoilers I've mentioned is only up to Ch 12. So technically the plot is only just getting started lol

On one occasion, MC goes to a masquerade ball to meet a dude she met at another ball she went to in order to promote a new perfume for men.

Originally, she thought it would be a good idea to start a relationship with someone else to stop people from continuing talking about her past relationship with Cedric. So a dude appears all flirty who was known to be a playboy and she thought: perfect! That way he won't try to tie her to a serious relationship. He talked about his intentions of asking her out and she said she didn't want anything serious. He was like: absolutely perfect!!! So they arranged to meet at the ball, she had to wear a red flower mask and he would wear a butterfly one, so it would be like he would fly to her. He was a very cringey man, very flirty with his words ahdkajs. MC was having regrets of accepting his invitation.

The day of the ball, she goes with another mask and she is debating whether to wear the red flower mask she had in her bag. That's when Cedric appears wearing a mask (but still very recognizable) ajdkamd.

Spoiler: A little bit of context before this

So, this happened before the masquerade ball, but I thought it would be better to talk about it.

The day Cedric defended MC about the rummor that she was dumped (explained in another spoiler before), he told her that she was late delivering her part of the deal, as his perfume supplies had finished, which confused her because she still had time (2 weeks? More or less).

He was confused because he thought a month had passed already and she was worried if he was overdosing himself with the perfume. He told her lately he was very anxious for some reason and that the only thing that's changed is that he doesn't see her as often as before. He then changes the terms of their deal in order for her to be the one to give him the perfume personally and not just send it over.

She didn't want to accept, but he increased the amount of money to be paid abdjajskakd. It was a lot btw, like ten times. She obviously said yes.

When the day to meet with Cedric arrived, she thought she was going to give him the perfume and be done with it, but she got photographed by a paparazzi on her way to meeting with Cedric so she chased him down and just when he was about to escape, Cedric came and took care of him.

They ended up having dinner together at a fancy restaurant (in which she got into a conversation with the owner and talked, all excited, about her garden and the flowers and plants growing there. Cedric watched the whole time thinking he had never saw her like this.) When they were talking, the topic came that everyone knew she was his perfumist and she was like

"Wasn't it part of the deal not to disclose that information?"

And he stared at her without saying anything and she remember that it had been her (the original Ariel) the one that had shared that info, she was so sorry and continued apologizing. He was like

"It's okay, but if you want to repay that, do me a favor"

And it turned out he wanted her to accept his escort. He said it was dangerous to go around without an escort, so he literally gave her his escort. She was like

"I can't accept him! He is your escort! Besides, I can't pay him!"

And he was like

"No worries, I'll pay for him, you just have to take him with you all the time."

So she had to take the escort with her and he became a helping hand in her perfume making process.

I mention this because people thought the escort was informing Cedric about MC's actions, but there's no proof (that I know of).

Anyway, MC was surprised seeing Cedric there. He was like

"What are you doing here?"

Which she replied that she was going to meet with someone. He said he also came to meet someone, but he continued to stay by her side. She was really confused. They talked a little bit and he asked her to dance. They were lovely. Then, the flirty dude appeared even though she hadn't wore the mask and was all like

"My flower!!!! I finally find you!!!!~"

And she was cringing so much. He asked who Cedric was, which she replied that he was a business partner. She realized it was a very bad idea to get with the flirty dude and said she wasn't feeling well, so she was leaving. Cedric smirked whem MC rejected the flirty dude's proposal to dance ahdosndk.

Turns out, Cedric had gone to do business himself, so he met with an elderly aristocrat. He was talking with him on a balcony when he saw MC entering the ball (he recognized her by her smell somehow, MC also asked him this). He immediately stopped talking, he excused himself and went to meet her. The aristocrat man (I don't remember if he was a baron) was surprised by his actions, even more so when he saw that he went to find a woman. He was really curious about her identity and noticed her resemblance to MC but was like

"Noooo, it can't be her. They had already broken up."

But then he saw Cedric inviting her to dance, which shocked him even more, because Cedric even rejected a princess' invitation to dance in the past. When MC left, Cedric came back to the aristocrat and just before he asked him about her identity, Cedric asked him for a favor (I don't know yet what said favor was).

Later on, the dude that wanted to do business with MC at first opened up a huuuge perfume shop and started to sell a perfume similar to the one she had been selling thanks to Charlotte's influence. (She became friends with Charlotte btw). She recognized the smell was false and it would cause pain to it's clients in the future because he was mixing some ingredients that shouldn't be mixed. The worst thing is that people bought his perfume thinking it was her perfume (It had the same name and all) So she got really mad.

She then decided she needed to take action and her maid recommended her to find an investor. She went to meet Cedric, thanks to her escort's help. (This part was cute because she told the escort that she wanted to meet Cedric as soon as possible and Cedric made an appointment for the same day, she wasn't expecting him to meet her that soon ajdksnd.)

She told him straight up she wanted to do business with him and handed him a business proposal she had worked on before. He read it seriously, asked her a couple of questions and then asked his assistant to take out two boxes that contained like 50000 gold coins each saying

"Is this enough? I can give you more."

She was sooo shocked because she wasn't expecting that much, but she only accepted one box because she knows a debt has to be paid and it's not good to be in debt of too much money.

And so, the business arc started. (I haven't read that part, though, but some people say is a long one.)

I'm sorry if I have grammar mistakes, English is not my original language and I'm writing this very fast hajdkajs. I will read it later to correct my mistakes as I see them.

They get married! They go to an island for their honeymoon and are all lovey dovey with him carrying her on his back as they walk. They go to a famous fortune teller because they had a coupon and it results that MC knows the fortune teller. Cedric introduces himself as Ariel's husband (even though the fortune teller asked if he was the duke of Evans, I found that part cute somehow). The fortune teller tells them that they are going to have twins! And he (or she) congratulates them. They are all like Omg hahah. So cute uwu.

 

thank you for spoilers!!!!! i'm curious to know more about Ariel's efforts to try and meet someone else and if Cedric keeps cutting in or getting in the way. And at what point does he realize he's doing this because he likes her.

 

Just a bit of info on MC and her perfumes.

In this world, it has a bit of fantasy with magic and stuffs. MC can create perfume that have special effects such as (1) energy boosting perfume, (2) sleep inducing perfume, (3) amplify likability for a week, its like a love potion but it isn't, if the other party doesn't like you in the first place, it basically does nothing.

ML needed MC for her perfumes that she can create from a plant called Anixia and it seems like she's the only one who can create such a perfume. The effect is that it calms MLs mind, basically the ML is suffering from 'voices' in his head, and the perfume silences those voices which was caused by a trauma from his childhood. This condition of ML gets worse and somehow the effect of the perfume is not enough to calm his mind and at this made ML notice that with MC's presence, the effect of the perfume gets enhanced.

During a festival, ML saved MC's maid. As a favor for saving the maid, ML propositioned to MC about going with him to some place as he might need MC's presence because of his condition. MC disagreed as she think its just placebo effect, and she mentioned to ML that his condition was akin 'Pavlov Dog's', she instantly remembers that there was no Pavlov in the world she currently is.
ML hearing the word 'dog' again remembered MC calling him 'mad dog' and asked MC about what dog was she referring to. At the end, MC still did not agree travelling with ML as its a far place, but will accompany ML in a palace banquet/ball instead.

That fonta Magnus guy tried a lot of tricks to stop FL’s business. But FL got over it and lastly he asked for a duel (to make a scent ) to FL in a party and got humiliated instead and so the store he built was sold to someone and they are planning to expand it.
