When he was about halfway, he heard someone chuckling above his head as they looked at the top of his paper: “You’re really called Haixiu......really an interesting name.” Haixiu - 海秀 海 - Sea, ocean 秀 - handsome, refined, elegant, graceful, performance, show In this case his name most likely means sea performance/show since 秀 comes after sea Fun fact/ - the pinyin for 海秀 (hǎi xiù) sounds almost identical to shy (hàixiū)
