Lol agree with most of what u say. This entire novel is a one giant black hole filled with so many plot holes and weird confusions. I won't be surprised if author forgot what she/he was trying write in the first place at the end of it. It'll probably end all mary-sue everyone loves Vio let's share her and live happily ever after, also forgive trash father cuz he regretted what he did a tiny bit at the very end, and also also let's not mention the step mother cuz author is too busy writing mary-sue school drama and totally forgot about step mother's existence at the middle of it.

Also, I suggest opening up a new thread title of novel discussions instead of chapter discussions. Because many things can't be mentioned in recent chapter discussions as some things may considered as spoilers but it's very annoying to read through so many wild discussions to get to the actual spoiler when they are being done at the spoiler thread. I also agree that, it is quite enjoyable to make your own conclusions and discuss about them with everyone. But for people who are new to the thread and for those who came to here exclusively for spoilers, it is very annoying to read through almost wall full of texts filled with various conclusions to actually find the real spoiler. So it's better to have separate threads for these purposes. At least for more popular and active novels. I would appreciate if someone can bring this suggestion to a moderator of this website. :)

The author wanted to be a little misterious about Yulan and Claudia's relationship at the beginning but added a hint there that their relationship is similar to that of Vio and Maryjun. And not much later in the manga it was revealed that Yulan and Prince Claudia are half-brothers. Yulan's mother was the King's lover, and even though he is second in line for the throne but because the King has a legitimate wife and heir (aka Crown Prince Claudia), Yulan is sent to be adopted by a branch family.

Is there any chance you can give more spoiler summary chapters again, please?! At least to the most important chapters/moments?

Since another poster mentioned it, does the step-mother ever say or do anything?

Does she even get her own scene, or is she just in the background doing nothing, also, yeah, her dad left her with someone he knew was insane to be with another family and another daughter, and once he came back, he just doesn't care about Violette at all, never even trying to learn how she was raised, i mean, maybe he heard how his daughter pursued the prince and feared the worst, but there is no indication of that, he just came by hating his daughter once a sweet mansion became available and treats his daughter terribly.

I read that this is because Violette looks like her mother and he's traumatized or whatever, but he doesn't even bother asking someone else to talk to her or what not, i also think i read a spoiler about how Violette's mother, in a suprising move, actually took the guy out of her will and left everything including the mansion to Violette and his daughter legally being able to throw him out whenever she wants is part of the reason he hates her.

...But i assume Reddit was just making that last spoiler up, either that or Violette somehow doesn't know this, but if she does and allows her dad and family to live in the mansion, apparently in both lives, and he still treats her this way then he is an even bigger asshole than i thought!

I stopped reading this exact cuase of these reasons. Its misery porn after misery porn. We have no clue why dad continues to act like an asshat. Step mom may as well be furniture and who the heck knows whats up with marijuana. 87 chapter and nothing much has been explained and the status quo is still the same

And Vios romantic interests aren't that great either. Yulan is a yandere, would she want to be with someone who was like her mother aka obsessive in love. And the prince is meh and he has the whole thing of being a future ruler so that just adds more stress

There needs to be a major event so all characters get development. The only thing that's changed is vio learned she loves yulan

Also, i just realized how does one go from mentally unstable and almost murdering her sister to being a self-sacrificing saint in a span of one year. The one poster who said this was mary sueish was right. Well either that, she has a legitimate mental illness, or the author just gave up on her writing

You think before vio and after transmigration vio were completely different people. You don't come out of shit like that sane. And shes really passive too. For someone who doesn't want to get involved with her family and break the chain events that's happening she sure lets people walk over her. I suppose that's a trope of villainess novels itself

A rare case where the manga is better

Can't wait for Yulan to make her miserable or lead to her death so she can get a third life consisting of her becoming a hikikomori and this being a good ending.

I forgot, does she need permission to be a nun, because otherwise, there is nothing stopping her from just saying she found God and wants to become a nun to worship him, heck, her dad would be excited to have his unfavorite daughter out of his life.

Yes, she need the parents permission for become a nun. That's why she's trying to cultivate Maryjun as heir so she can go her merry way to the church. Vio just want to have second life without any drama after all.

Ahh, she still wants someone competent at her family's house, because really, with the way her family treats her, only Maryjun would care if she went to the church, her dad wouldn't care at all or even get happy at her being gone out of his life.

It might just be another one of those differences between the novel and the manga, but I seem to remember that the manga says she looks remarkably like her father (hence the whole having to dress as a boy as a child etc.) and even now has most of his features (as in hair colour etc.).

Either way, I wonder how in the world this story is supposed to resolve in a satisfying manner. I mean, so far I like it (the manga being the easier read but the novel having more depth I think), but especially with the novel, everything seems so completely irredeemable that I don't even know what I am hoping for. Right now, I am still inclined to think that maybe her father and his second-stringers, along with that dumbass of a prince, eventually have Yulan yelling at them all the horrible things she has had to endure and they have a complete mental break-down once they realize what they have done - and I see that as the best case scenario really, all other options involving a lot of people dying imo. But even then, I can't see this being resolved any better than in I'm Not a Villainess!! Just Because I Can Control Darkness Doesn’t Mean I'm a Bad Person! where the MC does forgive her horrible mother, but really, they just agree to never talk ever basically.

As for Violette's character doing a complete 180, I mean being locked up in prison, away from all of these monsters, would give her some time to reflect and I don't think it is that she has turned into a saint, but rather she has decided that if she can just hold out, if she can just make it for a little while longer, she can get out of there and go far, far away, never having to see them again. So she takes it all and just swallows everything, in the hopes that she can make it until she can go to the monastery. I do wonder though, it seems in the last timeline she was not quite this close with Yulan at the moment as she was chasing the Prince, but maybe this time, she eventually just asks him to get her the heck out of there and smuggle her to somewhere far away or something.

So a few things I want to comment on:

    • First of all, being loved and educated=/=being socially competent. It's been firmly established that A) Maryjun grew up rather coddled and somewhat sheltered by her parents. and B) she only just recently got introduced to noble society. Just looking at her interactions with the side characters (the bullies at the start, the stagehands at the recital), she says genuinely kind and well-meaning things, but they're offset by either her lack of tact or her not being able to see the bigger picture (such as the stagehands potentially being fired). Also remember, it was her that saved Violette's life in the first timeline even after she tried to kill her.
    • Next, on the Prince, I'm not sure where you're getting any of that, because Violette herself admits she was a piece of work in her previous life and he was indifferent to annoyed at her at worst. He didn't "treat her like a maggot" he ignored her advances because she made him uncomfortable due to her constant stalking. From the looks of things he didn't even really tell her off until he got a fiance and she started harassing her and she did harass her that much is clear. The one time he did get confrontational with her was when he thought she was bullying her sister, and even then it was a misunderstanding he apologized for. What drove him to start admiring her was that she stopped her obsession with him which allowed him to see her better qualities, and the fact that she stood up for Maryjun while also giving her genuinely good advice on how she should carry herself as a noble. At worst he's not receptive to how his advances make her uncomfortable. I do agree that he should delve into her situation with her family, because so far she's not opened up to anyone about it.

a: i didn't say jack about maryjun and noble ways. I said she knows the difference between right and wrong. No matter how sheltered and coddled she is - she still knows at least that much. What does that mean? It means she should clearly be able to see their father is being a ginormous dick to Vio but she's not saying a single thing about it. To the father who would only listen to her. She has the power to try and improve Vio's situation in their family but she only ever uses that power in selfish ways (like when their father forces Vio to let Maryjun tag along etc) rather than being like "Hey, dad! Don't be so cold to my beloved sister! That's really not right and it's breaking my heart to see - can't you at least try to get along a little better with her? Please?" But she doesn't. Here in-lies my problem with her.

b: He does treat her like a maggot. I didn't say it was an unjustified treatment either. I simply said it didn't help the situation. He looked at her with utter disgust a few times. He jumps all over her even when she's not doing anything in the beginning of the story. Sure, it may be based on her past actions - but as a person in authority, he should have taken the time to find the truth rather than throw his opinion and power around. He may get a slight pass for being young - but it's on a SLIGHT pass. He's someone who needs to be more mature than his own age since he's to inherit the thrown and rule the entire country in the future. He's someone who needs to be able to calmly judge situations and currently he's far from achieving that. So - If treating someone like they're an annoying and disgusting base existence that one would avert their eyes from and pretend they don't see until things get so bad the death penalty is on the table isn't treating one like a maggot - what is?

    On Maryjun:
    A) Knowing right from wrong is not the same thing as being perceptive. Lots of kindhearted, fully matured people who grow up in loving environments still have trouble picking up on other people's issues and feelings, that's a fact of life. I've had friends in the past who were genuinely well-meaning and good friends, but don't really notice when I'm in a bad mental state or if they say something insensitive or when there's someone bothering me, and vice versa, that stuff can be genuinely hard to pick up on even for an adult and especially a teenager. Maryjun is in that same boat too. Yes, she grew up being loved but at the same time she grew up coddled so while she has a perception of right and wrong, her upbringing makes it so she's less likely to understand social cues, pick up on how someone is feeling, come across as insensitive, understand the subtlety or the implications of what she says, etc..

    B) She has no reason to know that because she's barely seen them interact with one another. Remember, Violet avoids interacting with her Father more than necessary and her Father wants to put as little attention on Violette too. Maryjun also just recently moved in with them so she wouldn't know what the house situation is all that well, and up through this point in translations Maryjun hasn't been in many conversations with Violette and her Father either. Combined that with the fact that Violette is pretty closed off and hides her feelings, it makes sense that someone who already isn't good at picking up on things wouldn't notice.

We do have the start of her realizing things are off though: After her recital, while her family has breakfast she goes out of her way to thank Violette and sing her praises only for her Father to shoot it down and say she alone was responsible for her success. She actually picks up on this, and the only reason why she doesn't pry any further was that because her Father's change of attitude through her for a loop long enough for Violette to change the subject.

For the record, I brought up the noble ways because that was relevant to her general attitude and naivete. I was refuting your point that Maryjun was faking her naivete or that she wasn't as blindly naive as she is because she demonstrates that she is just by how well-meaning yet insensitive she is in public. The story goes out of its way to show that, yes, Maryjun is, in fact, a genuinely good person who's naivete unintentionally hurts others even when she genuinely doesn't want to. Again, remember, Maryjun was the only one who didn't want to see Violette executed even after she tried to murder her and after years of bullying, and in the current timeline she's so clingy that Violette worries she'll follow her to he monastery if she does become a nun.

And all of this is really what makes Maryjun appealing: people WANT to see her grow out of her naivete and call out her dad.

    On the Prince:
    A) He is NOT obligated to learn her tragic backstory, I'm just putting that out there; he is not Violette's caretaker, he is not Violette's babysitter, and he is most certainly not Violette's dad, how she chose to conduct herself was her own choice. You say that the Prince is in a position of authority, but so is Violette in the original timeline as she would've been duchess since her sister was set to become a queen. Even as Prince and Future King, his job would be to see his country running smoothly and that the nobles were doing their jobs. Sure he might be expected to step in conflicts between noble houses, but that's about it. All her conduct would've done nothing but make her noble house be looked upon unfondly by the Crown when he finally becomes King. The position of King is that of a boss, not a caretaker or guidance counselor if she can't conduct herself properly- she was in charge of her own actions.

    Let me ask you this:
If a total stranger from school were to suddenly up and start following you everywhere, invade your personal space at every turn, constantly stalk you, be loud and obnoxious as they vie for your attention at every turn, harass someone you actually ARE interested in and have absolutely no regard for your personal space and feelings on the matter just because they want to be with you, how would you react? How do you think you would perceive them?

Do you honestly think anyone, even someone in a position of authority would look at someone who does that and say "Huh, I should look into their homelife.", instead of pegging them as an obsessive stranger? Because that's all the Prince would've gotten from their interactions when she was still stalking him, and I guarantee you other people in his position would take precautions to avoid her.

The Prince is not "treating her like a maggot" because he didn't want to look into her backstory. No one, unless they are a trained professional, is obligated to involve themselves in a total stranger's interpersonal issues, especially if said stranger has been stalking them for as long as they knew them. As cruel as it sounds, that's the truth: no one is obligated to reach out to you, you and you alone are responsible for bettering yourself and reaching out for help.

And the jumping all over thing? Yes he did have reason to suspect her because A) she was one of the people standing next to Maryjun, and B) her time with him left a really bad impression in his eyes. Also, remember, he sincerely apologized to her later and never did something like that ever again so it's a moot point.

And that's one of the big things pushed in the story, Violette wasn't just some innocent victim manipulated by her sister or lead on by the Prince, she was in charge of her own actions and she only had herself to blame for the ending she got. Yes, she was definitely hurt and scarred by her Father and Mother, but she also chose to hurt others as well. The core facet in Violette's inferiority and self-persecution complexes were the fact that she was genuinely responsible for her own downfall in her first life.

Damn, you think people would have gotten that just from the title of the novel lmao.
Seriously though - woobification of MCs & villainization of the heroines (how ironic!!) is a serious lazy writing tactic in a lot of villainess reincarnation stories. Violette & Maryjun aren't treated that way by the author & that's a nice aspect to have, if albeit rather slow-paced.

Most of the complaints on this thread are about the pacing rather than the characterization tbh.

    tl;dr
you just said she noticed but got distracted. she still noticed. it's not like that's the last time she see's something off. I also didn't say she's faking naivety; I said she's not voicing what she should. That being said; I still don't think she's that clueless or scatterbrained. The father is blatantly an ass - you don't need to "read others emotions" to see that shit. Even more so when it happens basically daily. As for the prince - I didn't say he needed to learn her entire sad backstory when she was stalking him - only that he needs to know about her situation when he's the one chasing her. What I said was that he needs to know the situation before he makes a judgement; specifically in situations like the one in the beginning when Vio's just having tea and someone else is stirring things up but the prince immediately accuses Vio of it and publicly calls her out without clarifying anything beforehand. This is the behavior I am talking about. Beyond this point in you reply; I did not read. I also wont from here on. I have my opinion and you have yours and I'm not looking to debate what I feel is up with this any further. Thanks tho.
