I join in 2017 Google I/O and received a Drawstring Bag with Google logo but sadly I lost it. My memento is gone.
Oh, ok. well besides the article @WhoCaresnovels posted Google I/O is an annual festival for developers with technical talks, codelabs and hands-on experiences at Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View. Its From May 8-10 this year. I'm just geeking out on the latest tech news. Conceptually this all sounds really cool. In terms of application, though, I just can't see most of this working as intended. The AR Visual Positioning System will probably turn out comically bugged, since even google maps doesn't work that well in a lot of countries outside the US (Glitchy routes / GPS inconsistency). I can already see the display telling me to walk through an alley wall or some other weird scenario. As for the voice assistant making appointments in your stead, I understand how innovative that is, but I still stand by my initial reaction of it being creepy as all heck. Once again, this all sounds and looks really cool. We just need to wait and see how this all plays out in application first, though.
I like and hate the idea of the Digital Wellbeing Dashboard and its features. I like it because it allows me to monitor my phone usage. I hate it because of the despair I will feel after looking at my phone usage.
Eeeeeeeeeew, why do people think that removing buttons and putting gestures is a good thing? I still can't handle any new TV because there are no buttons on them, let me handle things on the easy way please? I don't want to need to google how to force stop my apps because I can't find the buttons on the cellphone... Followed by me being unable to do the gesture right, which makes me need to try over and over again to do something I did in an instant before... Seriously, buttons are more practical than literally anything anyone could ever come up with, keep, the, buttons.
Truth! With gestures, you have to remember two things, the gesture itself and what the gesture does. With buttons though, you only need to remember one thing, what the button does. Gestures are overrated, and in many cases, they're frankly frustrating. That said, I really should watch the recordings at least. I tried to watch Microsoft's Build, but it was too late at night (started at 11:30pm here), so I couldn't continue. I hope the recorded videos are downloadable. ML Kit looks good.
