So l just read a few raw novel and in most of them (especially those that have sci-fi theme) have an insect race as their enemy or even their last enemy for example the galactic dark net and hail the king. Why do most author make the last enemy in their novel an insect why don't they make something more cool and evil like titan or ghost/spirit.
cause then the MCs wouldn't literally squash them like insects . @elengee please tell us what you expected from the title
there is a certain feeling of reversal, where bugs squash humans. plus, they vastly outnumber humans. and its not just novels. M.I.B. had the cockroach dude, Terraformars is obvious, and then people just mostly hate bugs.
It's the legacy of Starship Troopers. Those authors borrowed the theme. It's similar with all those fantasy novels with elves and orcs and demons and everything else that borrowed Tolkien's or D&D's theme.
Bcuz insects are the most prolific animals? They are omnipresent. Many of them, like bees and ants, have great organizational structure.
laying their eggs in bodies of others, flying out of holes, weilding stingers, poison, and other such nightmares, we have yet to discover every single kind of insect, that is how many there are. their hive mind, durable exoskeletons, and peculiar abilities amaze and astound. trying to describe a yellow crazy ant to someone who has never even seen an ant. give them nightmares.
When I'm MTLing they got directly translated into Zerg. Could be a tribute to Starship Troopers. Them being insects, it could also originate from how China has those "Gu" which is also insects in a way. So probably a different take of China's ancient "Gu" elements that has mutated? Leaning more towards the Starship Troopers theory. Who knows ╮(╯▽╰)╭
They were inspired by starship troopers, starcraft, or aliens. the aliens are insectile and reptilian in look if you think about it. Its difficult to create a new enemy if you think about it. insects aliens present a faceless and merciless foe to fight and win over, other genres have this as well such as the zombies of horror movies, mutants of post-apocalyptic movies, the undead ,orcs , and ghouls in fantasy , and finally the nameless foreigners in war movies edit: Plus there are tons of insects and if the author wants to make a new form they will just borrow a real world insect despite the fact that not all insect live as swarms
