Is it wrong of me to avoid Yaoi novels?

A lot of readers immerse themselves into the world by putting themselves in the character's shoes and imagining themselves as them so it's no surprise that you're thrown off when you see something that goes against your sexual orientation and breaks your suspension of disbelief. Doesn't mean you're homophobic or anything, but just disables you from enjoying the story because you can't relate with the main character, not something you can control.

 

There is really no need to read bl/yaoi. But in my case, I mostly read a novel with a fujoshi mc to seek comedy.

 

Nothing wrong it and that's completely normal.

I agree, everyone likes different things I absolutely HATE harem so even if it is really a great novel I can’t bring myself to read it. I personally love bl though but depending on what you dislike about Yaoi/ bl then you might find options that work with you.

 

I love your explanation. I don't think I will ever write something as thorough as this. Although I appreciate girls, I never see them in a romantic way. Hence, I can never appreciate GL stories. I might miss out on some superb GL stories out there, but I couldn't enjoy them.

i was talking about smoking beign bad....and i was comparing the two as "addiction" and pointed that i simply dislike them not BL novels are bad......so you got my meaning wrong....

 

Maybe you are missing great novels, but there is nothing wrong to avoid things you think you won't like or dislike, I, myself avoid harem. There was a novel that I tried with male protagonist, there was no harem tags, so I tried reading. The plot was really fun, the way he was getting strong step-by-step was satisfying, but as more women began to appear and the protagonist getting more sh*meless and the women becoming br*inless and equal, I couldn't bear anymore and stopped reading, but I enjoyed in some parts(sorry I will stop my complaining). So depends.

for me... i found that most BL/yaoi/shonen ai
do have good story and charm...
but then thinking... that the bromance... which is next level in xinxia... (like naruto sasuke)
i dont think i can handle it...

i saw many interesting title novel and read their synopsis which give good impression...
but the tag above... stop me...

maybe i can follow bromance like sasuke naruto... but deeper... not...

 

There is nothing wrong! It’s all about preference

 

You read what you like...Reading novel is leisure and hobby. You dont have to answer to anyone except yourself. I have personally only started reading BL novel this year after over 20yrs of not doing so. It was a welcome change for me.
