Hi, I like to read novels and i read a wide variety already but almost all are japanese novels. you see, just talking abt manhwa, the only thing that comes to my mind is: - chinese historical era - over-the-top unrealistic fighting stories/styles etc - some 1000++ year old ginseng or medical stuff I like to real stories that are plausible, theory wise, and not over the top cliche. sorry but its more like my prejudge on manhwa stories. I tend to see this kind of thread on many manhwa, both chinese and koreans. There are some korean stories i like but in general, most manhwa, in my opinion, has at least 1 of the 3 things i listed and truth to be told, i actually dun like any of those cliches stories really. I already seen many from interesting to downright weird titles for manhwa. Even the top 10 in series ranking are manhwa except death march. There are a few manhwa i read tho, both novel n manga but many of the other stories i tried to read makes me think that manhwa has a very cliche pattern. Train > become powerful> get injured> Need some ancient root/ginseng/lotus etc> cure> etc.... I dun mind fantasy but i dun really like historical stories and finding an ancient cure for some injury/poison seems too common on manhwa stories as i seem it in many series i tried reading. Im not trying to discredit but for me, i dun find the appeal. im just asking around for your opinion and maybe recommendations that i might try out
https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?perpage=50&type=manhwa&orderby=rating This is all the translated manhwa sorted on rating. Highest rated is Cheese in the Trap which doesn't fit your preconceptions. 4:th highest is Annarasumanara (which I can personally recommend) and which is also different from what you say. Keep checking and a lot of stuff isn't what you described, the most popular is though.
Feng Shen Ji and Blood of Steel are pretty fuckin awesome. btw Manhwa =corean comics Manhua =chinese comics technicalities tho .
may I asked what Mahwa you have read so it's more accurate to tell~ as for mahwa I like Paladin , Fairy Tale for Demon Lord, The Breaker series, Yureka, Western Shotgun
what there to fuss about? if you like it then continue reading if not stop. no matter what kind it is. manga, manwha, manhua whatever it is it doesnt matter. read what you like, drop the one you dont.
I like korean manhwa... there are some good martial art ones. Different taste from japanese manga but still good on its own. I dislike chinese manhwa. Almost all chinese manhwa that Ive tried are a recycled trash that dumb down the stuff from the novel by a lot. All stuff serious becomes happy go lucky.. its like giving a seinen series anime to 4kids..
you really shouldnt generalize an entire language or two based on the fee things you've read. your first three points are fairly common aspects of shonen and even the historical era ones. if you want realistic fighting you should just stop reading manga
ssecond the The Breaker and Tower of God adding: The Gamer Soul Cartel Black Haze Girl the Wild's Red Storm Noblesse D.I.C.E Green Boy Ultimate Legend: Kang Hae Hyo Zippy Ziggy He Is a High-school Girl there we go, I listed some portion of different kind of genre that u may want to try
The 'manhwa' you're talking about are all manhua, not manhwa, like many others have said. Manhwa refers to the Korean ones, and they (most of them) are nothing like your description up there. As for manhua themselves, most of the recent ones that have been released are xianxia/cultivation/xuanhuan genre. Check out the old ones and you'll see that they aren't usually like that. Do an advanced search and select manhua and sort by release date or something, mainly aiming towards the older ones if you want something other than cultivation type stories.
Try Marchen : The Embodiment of Tales. It's a cultivation based manga, but the MC learns techniques by reading books. The story line gets pretty good afterwards as well. Also Ruler of the Land is a pretty interesting manga that's cultivation based. It's about a dude who can copy any martial arts technique that he sees.
You're going to have to wait for a long time and there might not even be a sequel considering it went on an indefinite hiatus.
