I'm just wondering do you, translators read the novel beforehand then translate them or just read while translating each chapter?
Fan translators usually read the novels first, they like it and then translate. Professional/paid translators usually just translate whatever their employers tell them to translate.
Read the novels until the latest chapter, if it's still interesting enough and doesn't have anything that will be too hard for me to translate (for ex: politics) and doesn't have anything I can't tolerate, I will consider translating it.
It depends. But usually, I translate as I read. I enjoy the interaction with readers and the sense of discovering the story with them. If I translate a particularly good chapter, there is this excitement to see what others think.
I translate as I read, I think it's more fun to not know what comes next and enjoy the novel with my readers~
