A novel where someone is "Kissing Ass" is rarely seen, usually the characters just offend the MC instead of trying to "Kiss Ass". Are there similar novels? What are your thoughts on "Kissing Ass"?
What do you mean, has there ever been a CN novel without ass kissing & constant flattering words of praise? Usually it's just that it's middle-to-grandpa aged men who does it...
i like it if its only comedy action. i hate something like kissing ass of someone of upper stature for example: a merchant kissing ass to noble.
Take any xianxia novel which have evil guys with strong backgrounds. They usually have a bunch of henchmen who kiss their ass. I would see where the term kissing ass came from. I mean, doesn't it sound NSFW? Especially when it's happening between members of the same gender.
maybe that's because you just mostly see on side of the coin...if you think about it on the opponents side instead of the MC of most novels, the lackeys overly praise their boss and are the very first to move without even being instructed...i think this acts itself is the very definition of kissing ass...
It's not rarely seen at all. Especially as this doesn't seem to involve MC directly. Usually side characters or even opponents and enemies do that, there are just a few very scarce ones who won't do that if their lives are endangered and doing this can save them.

All I ever see in Asian novels are the endless kissing ass of older people. Generally it's "Oh whomever you are, great elder blah blah blah, I must bow my head to you and offer you compliments because you're older even though I'm a hundred times stronger than you, or in 50 chapters will be, but at that time I will still bow to your age." I honestly can't understand that logic, but when you brain wash a people to always kneel before age, it really does make a weird system. I'd prefer if you're the same state as everyone else, treat them the same, when you're stronger, treat them the same way they treat others who are below them, the kissing ass for age thing just gets old. Especially when you consider most of the novels have age progression going into thousands or millions of years for cultivation crap, everyone's older, no reason to respect everyone for living a long ass time when you're stronger than them all.
I think a ton of novels have ass kissing so the people that are weaker do no offend the stronger person and end up getting killed in a dog eat dog world. Also some novels I have come across people try to persuade the MC into their faction when they hear rumors he is strong or is a expert alchemist making pills. Another is those people always trying to court the MC potential waifus with sweet words that are lies most of the time all they want is the body so insults towards the MC is them trying to impress the Waifus. I am used to it since it is common so my thoughts on it are meh. Its either going to offend and cause action(death, fights) or be a funny comedy act to make me laugh.
I thought it was boot licking... but ass kissing is fine, you don't know what happend to those guys that trained elephant devouring technique thing *shiver*
