So I've been using my Dell laptop for around a year now but recently it's been bugging out on me. I switch it on, the windows loading screen comes up, the desktop comes up and boom my screen goes almost black. If i squint really hard i can barely make out the details on the screen. Apart from the black screen problem I'm guessing that the laptop is okay. So any ideas on how to fix it. Any help is appreciated.

    Hey,

1st thing would be finding out if its actually a computer problem or software :
Try hooking up an external monitor. If you can and it works you could possibly have an issue with your lcd panel and/or videocard.

Unplug from power, remove battery, plug back in , try to run in Safe Mode , see what it does.

If you don't have an external monitor aviable atm , you can try to run HDD diagnostic to see if there is a problem with your hard drive, that sometimes leads to problems.

Ofc check your brightness setting too , maybe pressed smth accidently, eazy fix.

Just some tips , may help , may not .Post more after trying something out

First check the brightness settings, if you have Windows 10, use the little chatbox icon on the right lower screen, in that little menu you can change brightness settings.

If that didn't work, try updating your Graphic card driver, that should do it if the problem is just software related

Sounds like it is an LCD Inverter Board problem. Zumix pretty much summed up the steps to take

It most likely is. I had a laptop with this problem once. You have to take it to a professional, no other choice. Of course, check with your official Dell service center first. Only take it to a third-party repair shop if Dell says they can't do it.
