Did it happen after CQ death? (CQ fully reciprocated YZM’s love )
Did thair relationship develop befor CQ death? Did YZM show gestures od attention to CQ ? Did YZM realize his feelings befor CQ's death, at least subconsciously ? Did they have any kiss befor CQ's death? And how CQ fall in love with YZM?
I have already read 33 Chapters. And noticed, YZM show some extra attention to CQ :)

Kind of late to add spoilers to this lol, but I did MTL and can help out if anyone's still curious. *pokes head in*

Yes, there is BL. No, you won't see even a page of smut -- this author likes to keep things shounen-ai. So their feelings are affirmed and they do get in a relationship, but you won't see OTP's heavy action.

Senior brother YZM, even in his complete narcissist phase, always tolerated/liked CQ more than his other fellow disciples. Emphasis on the like, especially further on in the story. He tries to make friends several times and even baits CQ with a secret library lol.

YZM is strongest (as stated before). He's actually a genius sword cultivator -- master always facepalms because if only he worked harder......

YZM does get motivation to work harder later, but it's really sad. It's mostly these 2-3 incidents:
    1. Master dies. Everyone depends on him now, since he's the senior brother.
    2. During their wandering phase, the fellow disciples all get publicly shamed by the other sects in a competition. This motivates YZM to get off his bum and work hard so they can faceslap those sects right back in the future
    3. CQ dies (he comes back later). This is arguably the saddest part of the whole novel, because this is when YZM simultaneously realizes the depths of his feelings for CQ and the fact that he's still weak. He practically loses his soul when he finds out and everyone's worried about him falling apart. He keeps it together though, because the disciples left are all depending on him. After this, YZM trains like crazy and basically hauls their sect up with him right to the top. By the time CQ revives, their sect is prestigious and YZM is famous as a super eccentric, super strong sword cultivator (he's still a narcissist, he's just toned it down and tends to cut people up if they make him angry lol).

Also, there's the part where CQ returns, everyone's happy, but YZM is suppressing his feelings for CQ so hard it becomes a heart demon/qi deviation. CQ doesn't know until one of the other disciples tell him and he goes investigating. Then CQ smacks sense into YZM of course, lol. They get together -- it's mutual on CQ's end. CQ just isn't the type to think about his feelings much is all, so he's sort of oblivious.

Just came across this novel and I absolutely love it. I’m so sad to find out that Han Yuan kills CQ though, what caused him to do so?

I'm currently in the middle of reading the raws, and can now help answer some questions!

Basically, after Muchun (Shifu) dies, the Fu Yao disciples take refuge on the Qing Long Island for quite a while. There, they run into a thoroughly unpleasant scholar villain called Zhou Yanzheng. Zhou Yanzheng is secretly capable of turning other people into dolls/puppets that he can then control.

Because of Han Yuan's relatively low cultivation ability, he inadvertently gets controlled by Zhou Yanzheng into killing Cheng Qian. While Zhou Yanzheng dies immediately afterwards, pretty much everyone is extremely traumatized by this incident: especially Han Yuan.

Han Yuan flees from everyone and is too guilty/ashamed/horrified to show himself to the other sect members. His tremendous guilt manifests as a Heart Demon, obsessed with gaining power and eventually exacting revenge on Zhou Yanzheng's faction . He essentially develops a kind of split personality where his Heart Demon controls him, which leads him into demonic cultivation specialized in strengthening Heart Demons.

Every time we see him is awkward and sad, since Heart Demon!Han Yuan is crazy for power and doesn't care for innocent lives at all, but original!Han Yuan rarely emerges to help the rest of the Fu Yao sect in small ways.

(It's also revealed that Han Yuan set up a sinister-looking formation/ritual at Fu Yao Mountain... only to listen to the long-lost nostalgic sounds of the disciples' childhood ;___; )

Thanks for answering! ~ My Poor Han Yuan!! I loved his character while reading the translated chapters. What was the other disciples reaction to this? Did they blame or hate him? Especially YZM.

All the disciples have relatively complicated feelings towards Han Yuan entering the path of demonic cultivation. All the innocent blood he's shed in his pursuit of power and revenge is unforgivable. But in the end, he is still their brother, suffering on his own all because of guilt over something that wasn't his fault in the first place.

Yan Zhengming as the sect master is a tiny bit more harsh towards Han Yuan--since YZM is the one carrying all the responsibility of the Fu Yao sect, and therefore has to bear the weight when Han Yuan's bloodthirst harms the budding Fu Yao sect.

At the same time, both YZM and Cheng Qian acknowledge that it's the circumstances that made Han Yuan the way he is today. Cheng Qian thinks that if it was him controlled by Zhou Yanzheng back in the day, he probably would have become even more twisted and screwed up.

Goddamn I finished this novel and it's so insanely bittersweet and depressing.

The entire novel is based around the theme "humanity's efforts to transcend its own powerlessness are ultimately futile". Muchun says at one point that the ultimate goal of the cultivator, "Ascending to the heavens", is really just death.
Whether it's the quest for immortality, thirsting for enough power to never suffer again, the desire to resurrect your loved one who died before their time, or even just the simple yearning to return to your long-lost sweet childhood... just attempting to go against the will of the heavens will only bring grief to you and everyone you care about.
Lesson learned from this book: being a cultivator sucks. No, actually, being a human just plain sucks. We are forever doomed to be foolish ants struggling against our own powerlessness, the stupid donkey chasing the carrot on a string eternally out of its reach.

Everyone in this book suffers way too much. There's plenty of humor (sometimes dark humor) but any purely warm/fluffy moments are few and far between. (I guess this book is true to real life LOL) Oh also, while the five disciples of the Fu Yao sect are still alive, almost all the side characters meet tragic fates and die~ :) :) :)

-It's revealed that Han Yuan was a beggar and orphan precisely because his entire town was killed by Jiang Peng! (They were literally Jiang Peng's second victims, right after Muchun was Jiang Peng's first victim).
Han Yuan was told that Zhou Yanzheng's faction were the ones who lured Jiang Peng onto the evil path of ghost cultivation, driving him towards all-consuming revenge.
In the process of getting revenge, Han Yuan does show his true loyalty to the Fu Yao sect and rekindle his long-lost friendships with the rest of the disciples. But his ultimate fate is atoning for his sins as a jailer for the other demonic cultivators, and he will never be able to return to Fu Yao Mountain ever again.

-Even the final boss of the novel is a super depressing figure. It's actually Tang Zhen, the seemingly nice and generous ghost we first see in Chapter 30! After Cheng Qian's resurrection, he appears to go out of his way to help Cheng Qian get resurrected and aid the Fu Yao sect. However, it's revealed that all along, he was 1) Puddle's father and 2) the actual controller of the evil Soul Lamp and the mastermind behind everything that happened! The Soul Lamp twisted his previously kind personality beyond recognition, and he only returns to his old self for a moment before his death.

-Finally, we come to the absolutely heartbreaking Shifu ship between Han Muchun (the current generation's Shifu) and his own Shifu, the infamous Lord Beiming (real name Tong Ru). Tong Ru used to be an extremely powerful righteous sect cultivator, friends with the other powerful righteous cultivators (the Four Saints).
Tong Ru implies at one point that Muchun is probably the only person he has ever cared about. The two of them appeared to have mutual crushes on each other back in the day. So when he hears about Muchun's tragic death... the combination of his grief, guilt, and long-suppressed love cause him to lose it.
The Fu Yao sect have long been the keepers of a stone that is said to fulfill any wish. Tong Ru goes through immense agony and enters qi deviation to dig out the stone. He makes a wish for the Fu Yao sect--and Muchun--to live on.
It's just that the stone demands a price for that wish--hundreds and thousands and millions of lives. Tong Ru first exclusively killed demonic cultivators (hence how he earned the title of Lord Beiming), but then apparently went crazy and started slaughtering people en masse. The Four Saints had to fight their former friend.
(Cheng Qian and Yan Zhengming even comment that the wish-granting stone did jack shit in the end. Muchun still suffered and died, the Fu Yao sect's traditions got broken.)
His ultimate fate, as we see in Chapter 30, is to be sealed away by Muchun's soul. Their two souls are tied to each other, which is the only way they can finally be together.

The final scene in the novel is the revelation that the souls of both Han Muchun and Tong Ru have vanished from this world. Cheng Qian thinks, the two of them ascended to the heavens together. For some reason, that thought brings him relief.

...FUCK YOU, "Together in Death" is still not a happy ending!!! I want my fluff to be pure fluff, dammit!!!!

Thanks. Well...hu..yes quite depressing. I hope the part you didn't cover in this post (YZM and CQ relationship, sect brother friendships) are enough warm and fluff to counterbalance a little:blobexpressionless:

The YZM/CQ relationship and the inter-disciple friendships are heartwarming for sure. Those precise bonds give the current generation of the Fu Yao sect the strength to successfully find a happy ending, where their previous generations had made mistakes and failed.
It's just that no matter what, the happiness is always tinged with bittersweetness. (again, such is real life lol)

Case in point, there's an extra chapter featuring Tong Ru and Han Muchun, including scenes from when they were master and disciple. It's sweet and cute, especially since Tong Ru is like a grown-up Cheng Qian (same seriousness, sharp tongue, speechlessness at the silly shenanigans happening right in front of him, and soft heart deep down). Han Muchun is like young Yan Zhengming (really talented but really lazy, loves fooling around and not actually working, attachment to worldly beauties and pleasures instead of cultivating, but secretly wise and responsible).
    EXCEPT any sweetness is diluted by how we already know things go straight to shit for them ;___;
Tong Ru literally straight up says something like "It seems like it was sweet for only a momentary flash, but it was bitter for a thousand years."

It's implied he did find out--after Tong Ru was defeated and Muchun clung to life in that weasel spirit's body, Muchun received the Sect Master Seal of the Fu Yao sect. That seal has the power to show the important memories of previous sect masters (or something like that), and Muchun immersed himself in those records and memories.
When Muchun bound his soul, Tong Ru was still afraid to ever ask the crucial question of "Did you see /that/ in the Seal's memories?"
Only at the moment where the two of them were about to leave this world did he finally ask the question. In return, Han Muchun took his hand and looked at him with eyes that seemed to be full of stars.
Tong Ru finally thinks: Being able to die like this without regrets, this must be ascending to the heavens.

That last thought of his moved my heart.
The relationship between TR/MC and YZM/CQ is like reversed indeed. We have the masters who’re the young version of YZM and old version of CQ. In master’s case, the one who is serious and sharp tongue falls first, while in our main characters’ case, it’s the lazy one lol
But in the end it’s the older one who falls in love with the other first.

What I find cute in the relationship between YZM/CQ is that YZM came bursting though the door when CQ is hurt terribly by Yan Xu or smth. Big bro to the rescue!! :blobhug:
And another scene YZM tells CQ he wants to put CQ under house arrest for a lifetime considering how CQ always gets hurt when he goes out without his watch :blobpats:

Oh I remembered the full backstory of the final boss Tang Zhen!

Back in the day he was actually a warm and generous person who was injured helping Puddle's mother (hence how they got together to make Puddle lol). When his lover and daughter were in danger, he carved a charm to protect them. He then went on an expedition to the far north, trying to find a treasure that could save them.

Unfortunately, during that expedition, he got his soul sucked into the evil Soul Lamp. He inadvertently survived and gained power by managing to make the Soul Lamp his host.
Of course, the Soul Lamp completely corrupted him into a ruthless scheming monster, without any of his previous kindness and love.
He was the one who showed Jiang Peng the demonic path of ghost cultivation, which led to Muchun dying and everything going to shit. Jiang Peng thought he was controlling the lamp, when in fact the lamp (AKA Tang Zhen) was controlling him.
He was the one who deceived Han Yuan into thinking Zhou Yanzheng's faction was behind it, which led to Han Yuan going crazy for revenge.

He reveals himself in the climax of the story, willing to sacrifice the lives of millions for infinite power--including Puddle. Yep, the corrupted Tang Zhen didn't even have any fatherly sentiments towards Puddle D:
But when he attempted to kill Puddle, the charm he had carved so long ago protected her from his blow.
It's only in his final moments that he seems to return to his old self for just a glimpse, and the last thing he sees before he dies is the beautiful grown-up Puddle.
