O Oh, I did not read it before. But I would still somehow choose the same. It's not like love is granted to all mortals from their lovers. So if I become an immortal with a possibility to never have a lover I am fine. I am willing to search for her, in countless women. They don't have to be someone I love.
Well, since I don't even believe in the concept of love, I should be fine. After all, love is just chemicals and electric signals in the brain. Never having these same chemical and electrical responses again is not a big loss. Can still be with someone and enjoy time with them. Just not as "lovers" in the arbitrary sense of the word.
Interesting topic. I realize this is based around two things "Love is everything in life" and "What point is there to live a pointless life?" If one of those are considered false to someone, they'd choose immortality. Immortality. Life should be lived regardless of whether you want it or not. Existence is already a pain, might as well make it everlasting.
There is love. Which is different from these chemical and electric signals, which are mostly initial stages of attraction and lust. Yes these stages are not love. Love is when all these signals are over, and you cherish your partner with your heart even more than you did before. Because now you can see them for who they really are and not who you always saw them as. Yes, Love is a rarity. But it exists. At the very least it's rarer than how many times it is mentioned in the adverts.
i came here expecting most people to answer love however seeing that most people chose immortality my faith in humanity is a bit restored. I too chose immortality on the condition I abandon and not kill the lover (whom I don't have) and as many people pointed out I want true immortality with some power but even without much power I would still chose immortality
Outlive humans? THE humans who breeds like rabbits. Humans will always be greedy. Before humanity would end from armageddon or what not, you would probably lose any sense of being, emotion, pain, joy or any sort of things that prove you are alive. All you know is being strapped on a table, dissected, cut, prodded, experimented on by humans, machines and all you can see are the white lights on the ceiling. Whats the use of immortality if you are pretty much a dead doll inside. Thousands or millions of years of suffering, could you still be sane.
The heart is a muscle. It doesn't feel. And love is a subconscious result of those chemicals, which triggered a response of elation, similar to a drug. In other words, continued love is just a habit, similar to smoking and drinking alcohol. Everything else is a justification of why it's supposed to be something special. Just be above those things. Sanity is the problem of mortals. If you have the knowledge that you will outlive everything, even the universe itself, there is nothing to fear anymore.
