Recommendations MC don't have everything

I understand that the most of the xianxia novels try to make the MC have everything that we dont have but desire to have. However i would like to read a novel that have the action, the adventure, the romance but the mc don't have everything. I am thinking about a mc who fall in love with a "not so beautiful" woman (has anyone read Gantz?), who dont get the best treasures, skills, etc.

World of Cultivation

 

Xianxia is the wrong genre to look for those requirements. Heck a lot of modern day web novels JP, KRN, CH, don’t meet your requirements. The closest I can think of is grimgar of ashes which has been licensed and that is because the series focuses more on world building than wish fulfillment and is slow asf

 

I can only recommend a JP novel Kuro no Maou, the MC is in a relationship with two beautiful yandere girls at the moment (latest raws) but he hardly has anything going his way and suffers A LOT during the adventure.

 

A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality, Ze Tian Ji, some mangas achieve this in some way

 

Forty Millenniums of Cultivation. I'm not certain if this fits perfectly, but I do feel like it fits relatively well. The MC does get some wish fulfillment, as the story follows him as he grows from a slum-rat to a powerful cultivator, but it's not unreasonable on a relative scale. Hell, it's outright stated in part of it that (paraphrased from memory) "People looked at the MC wondering what type of extraordinary encounter he had, but didn't ask. They are all on the road of cultivation, who hasn't had an extraordinary encounter or event or two". In other words, while the MC does get things given to him, so do others. He doesn't get the best treasures, instead having to make them himself.

Spoiler: Love Interest - Past what has been translated at the moment

His love interest in this story (and as far as I'm aware, he only has one) IS, admittedly, beautiful. She's also has mannerisms typically associated with brash males, and is a body cultivator meaning that she fights on the front lines with her fist. No demure little girl who never manages to protect herself and will die for the MC because a pretty little airhead who's in love for no good reason should do commit suicide to save her lover here.

Sorry. I havent read any female in xianxia that isnt a peerless jade skinned beauty that could topple continents for a while now.
There are some with fake ugliness like burn marks, but those will get healed later making the girl a peerless beauty once again. to slap the face of those who mock her and make the MC who is nice to her more grand...
