Microsoft just bought Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax for $7.5 billion. They now have exclusive rights to Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Starfield, Doom, Dishonored, Wolfenstein and others. now let's pray microsoft kick all the staff(as making less bugs, not firing them) of bethesda for making bug filled games.....
Um i wouldn't brag about exclusives, but if this changes the culture of Bethesda for the better then I'm hopeful (wishful thinking). But looking at the track record the have been negatives like with platinum games. I hope it goes well.
I think that they will continue to buy franchises just to spite PlayStation and continue to roll out Xbox exclusives. Not that I care as I use pc though. lol
I fear for the worst. Bethesda made my favorite games and now there is Microsoft coming and making changes. I can only quote from MythBusters: Scottie Chapman : Do you smell that? Kari Byron : What's that? Scottie Chapman : Baaad things.
At least now there are more chances to have Fallout: New Vegas 2 or something similar, since both developers are under same company.
I think this has the potential to do good for Bethesda. They have struggled the past couple of years and this could be the breath of fresh air they need to improve.
Well, yeah, PC gamers wouldnt lose out and might even benefit from more releases to PC. MS buying up more devs and publishers is possible. They're never lacking money from the cashcows that are Windows, Azure and the rest of their services they've built up.
I feel like Microsoft has increasingly been moving away from exclusivity. More and more of their games are being released on PC alongside the console. There are still exclusives, ofc, and games that just hit the console first before later being ported over.. but I feel like they definitely aren't pushing to keep titles exclusive as hard as Sony is. ... Sony has historically also been the one denying cross-platform gameplay and whatnot. They've always been very.. controlling. Microsoft less so. ... Possibly just because they own Windows too anyway, but hey. Anyway, if ES VI is suddenly an Xbox exclusive, well, shit. But I doubt that's going to happen. Instead, I hope Microsoft's backing takes some of the edge off the moneygrubbing tactics Bethesda has been so utterly obsessed with lately. As it was, I've been worried ES VI is going to be a let down. Maybe this will help make sure it isn't. Or maybe it'll make it worse. We'll just have to see how it all plays out. I do know, though, that Bethesda was not on a good course. So any change in their situation seems like good news. I just hope it really is for the better.
Well .... i guess the time is finally here, to say goodbye to nice games. Time to move to Mars, anybody else is coming or do i take off by myself ?
Microsoft is very active lately on PC with their franchises. Not only with Halo but also with the newest acquired ones. Wasteland 3 and Outer worlds are the newest examples and pretty much they (Microsoft) not much involved in development process.
I agree. With their buying of github and trying to be open. I doubt they would be exclusive in the same sense as Sony's Gaming Platform Microsoft do need to buy a movie studio though and maybe a comics platform too before they can really compete with Sony in that space. But I wonder if it is really possible given that Japanese conglomerates all have a bank. It is the ridiculous anti-competition nature of this system that has destroyed Japanese economies for decades. They certainly put the big in too big to fail. I recall Sony was in partnership with a company for Cloud Services, I thought it was Microsoft but I guess it is;t. This will also be a test of Microsoft's so called new inclusive policy and support for Open source. They would be branded as hypocrites if they previously non exclusive titles into exclusives
I feel like they are definitely going to make some of the games exclusive from PlayStation. They already have popular exclusive games like State of Decay and Sea of Thieves. I wonder if this could make PlayStation stop making Spiderman and MLB: The Show exclusive.
In all honesty, I think there is a large chance that Microsoft won't really bother with actively changing anything on Bethesda's end. Like uhn... Regardless of how much flak Bethesda got for some of their recent decisions, their business model does seem to be pretty profitable, and while some games certainly aren't perfect *coughs* Fallout 76 *coughs*, their main sellers like Skyrim and Fallout 4 still did pretty well as far as I'm aware. So... I feel like Microsoft doesn't really have any reason to actively make changes on Bethesda's internal work structure. They'll probably just be happy from earning a share of Bethesda's profits while letting them do as they please.
Nothing will change. Bethesda was, is, and will always be.. SHIT. unless Microsoft forces them to change to a new engine when making games. Nothing will change otherwise
To be fair. I really do not play games. Last game I played is Mobile Legends Bang Bang and Football Manager on PC. I rather be producing games. Creating content is more satisfying than consuming it. I use to play FIFA Soccer, beat a dude 10-0 I usually pick weak teams like Hoffenheim, Birmingham City. Playing online was fun until everyone starting cheating to win and EA didn't bother fixing it. People used bugs instead of skill. The so called Pro scene which I wanted to join was also pathetic. Unlike strategy games, you cannot play a defensive game when they are too many exploits for attacking and EA had no interest in fixing defending. Being a Jose Mourinho fan and unable to replicate "Park the bus" was disappointing. I will look at translating some visual novels into English. Anyone interested in some form of collaboration can message me. Making language packs or something similar should not be too difficult
Judging by the shenanigans Bethesda has been up to for the past few years, I doubt it'll get any worse. Here's a nice summary of how Fallout 76 went down.
Thankfully Phil Spencer said that they'll still release games on the Sony hardware, so I'm not too bothered by this; especially since I am in the Xbox family as well. That being said, I still prefer using Playstation and now the rumors that Microsoft is looking to purchase SEGA is making me nervous. DO NOT MESS WITH THE YAKUZA SERIES.
