Recommendations "Monster" Reincarnation/World Transfer where the Protag is not a complete douche.

So I really like "Monster" Reincarnation/World Transfer concept, I find its a (relatively) fresh spin on the genre.
However, I've seen that there is also a weird trend among them as well; disregarding the REASON (justified or not), the protag either starts out fine, but eventually degrades into a full on "Law of the Jungle" mentality (Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka?) or starts out like that from the start with no real reason (Goblin Kingdom, Re:Monster[Arguably]).
Now, I'm not completely against this kind of setting, but what gets me is the Hostility that this is always portrayed in, if that makes scene. Goblin Kingdom for example, he at first seems like a normal enough guy; even shows some sympathy to the "slave" women in the village. But what happens the first time he meets Humans? more so ones he even thinks came looking for said woman? stabs one of the guys and whispers he's going to rape the others. The heck did that come from dude?!

What I am looking for is something more along the lines of [Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken] or [Skeleton Knight, in Another World] Where even if they are not pushovers and the "Law of the Jungle" applies, they've not given up on their "Humanity".

EDIT: If you could, preferably, not a translation that is "Dead" (not been updated in a while), less its finished, long, or you really recommend it. Nothing grinds my gears more than to get to the end of a good series and find out no one has been working on it for months.

Lol kumo is a spider... both previous and present life so what's wrong with a spider using *law of the jungle* mentality ? Lol

Dragon Life might be for you, but the MC isn't powerful or anything (yet).
Your requirements are difficult, because it seems that the appeal for most monster reincarnations are that they can keep killing/evolving all the time lol

Its not the mentality itself, its the degradation that got me. She seemed sensible at first, then was just like a switch flipped was like "Screw it, lets just kill everyone".
This kind of about face gets at me more that when they started like that in the first place.

Even a Cicada Becomes a Dragon If Reborn. Hey, you didn't say that they had to be originally human right? The protagonist is the total opposite of a douche and he doesn't even want to eat anything except sap because well.. . he was originally a cicada.

 

Have you tried Undead Seeks Warmth? (Don't know if he'll change later since the novel isn't that far yet but so far he has had some human interaction)

 

Goblin Kingdom's MC is actually pretty soft. Attacking the humans is common sense since they're going to attack his village. The survivors are treated well enough.

Rather than a personality shift, the biggest trend I noticed with monster protagonist, is their main objective always seems to shift from just living their lives, to trying to form a country, and/or becoming the demon lord.

 

Ya, something like that is interesting as well. Though personally, I did not want to start on that one till someone picked it up again (again, really bugs me). Looking at the link though, it DOES look like someone has picked it up recently. Anyone know if someone is actually starting it again? or if it is just a side project?

 

I don't know, admittedly I dropped it at that point, really turned me off. I'll have to try again for a bit and see if I readjust my opinion again. Though he still seems like a douche from what Ive seen so far.
