Caim and Eilenna are two average people in an average magic-filled world. They live an idyllic life in some village in the middle of nowhere, passing each day in a permanently sweet marital bliss.

Caim is a regular lad who fell in love with magic. Up until he met Eilenna, every available moment in his life was centered around magic. Now, it is centered around Eilenna. No one knows what caused this change, no one cares. He's just like any other fellow who happened to fall for a woman... Ignorant in bliss.

Eilenna was an orphan being raised by a childless old nanny in some village without a name. Her life revolved around the life within and around the village and nothing more. Unlike other hormone-driven young adventurers, she felt happy just living this simple, yet fulfilling life. Caim helped her achieve that.

The human kingdom they lived in suddenly started a war against a neighboring elven power, for reasons no one really cared about. As coincidence had it, a convoy related to royals passed through the village and somehow recognized Eilenna as being a part of the family.
Taking no for an answer, they took her away as she was alone, not knowing nor caring that there was a fellow named Caim waiting for her to come home. A fellow who, because he managed to learn some very dangerous magic, was abruptly cut off from going further by a higher power and meeting Eilenna was the boon given in return.

Invading skirmishes were common by now, but such a small and nondescript village had no way of knowing such information. Thus, by the time Caim found out that she was taken, though he did not hear the reason, the convoy was already half a day away. And by the time he found the convoy, or what was left of it, she had already been taken by elven forces.

The Gods involved did not know of this or... did not care. It is something they would regret for a very long time...

As a royal, Eilenna was taken by the elves for political purposes. They planned to either have her married to one of their princes and thus show that the human royals had already given up the fight or use her as a bargaining chip for some benefits. Unfortunately, the human kingdom's politics wouldn't allow for this to happen and so it was decided to have her killed and deny her roots should it ever come to light.

After a particularly bloody battle, which also attracted the attention of the now despairing Caim, the human side finally succeeded in their task. With neither side having an interest in the matter any longer, Caim barely managed to reach the dying body of Eilenna before it would have been disposed of as evidence.

It is said that while Caim was looking into her eyes in the last moments of life, the reaper that came for her soul froze in place out of fear. It is also said that he never let out a tear and just kept a gentle smile full of love on his face up until he buried her in the back garden of their home.

Just one year since then was all it took for Caim to break the lock the God of Magic himself placed upon his very soul. Excerpts from the chronicle "Gossips of Gods and Demigods" written by travelling minstrel Edios Laffayete say that those that were looking at the God in that moment thought they saw him shiver.
No more than a week after that, during which time said God was frantically attempting to do something no one has since revealed, the entire kingdom which housed the small village in the middle of nowhere vanished on the spot, leaving behind a barren land with only a small farm full of greenery and a grave built for two that could not be touched by any man or god.

No more than a moment after that had passed that the God of Magic, the Elven God and countless mages everywhere screamed with all their might in both terror and despair. The source of magic had been tainted.

From that moment forth, any and all who desired to use magic would be cursed by an unrecognizable face distorted by savagery and hatred with the message "You have taken everything from me. I shall take everything from you.", until they would succumb to madness or die.

From that moment forth, there was no elven race in Morae.

A kingdom vanquished. Magic banned. Maddened mages hunted almost to extinction. A race destroyed.

These are the results of the Whims of Gods and Men, these are our burdens to bear...

And yet, how is this connected to the mighty Sorceror? Quite simple...

The mighty God of Magic had lost whatever control he had over the source of magic and thus was driven mad. The mighty Elven God depended on that source to sustain his magic-filled elves and had to find another way of rebuilding his race in order to rise again. In their absence, much was lost.

Only many years later, when a naturally empathic young girl was witness to and felt to the depths of her core a cruel massacre, it was when the first embers of Sorcery burned bright. For Sorcery is emotion given form.

Caim's act of vengeance also became a blessing for those who would practice magic. Beyond his hatred for those who did him wrong remained his desire and love for all that is magic. That pure emotion blended and distilled the ways to access the source and it was through emotion that its strength could be drawn.

However, Sorcery in its purest form is the raw energy of creation and destruction. It cannot be controlled, only directed. Thus, guided by an empath's heart, raw magic was brought into the world once more, spilling forth as if a mountain river breaking through cracks in the rock.

The Elven God saw this and was inspired by it. He reached out to the girl and taught her to control it. He helped her rise over time and take over as the new Goddess of Magic, calming down the surging tides and allowing for the Elven race and himself as well to be remade.

The newly reborn Elves were still creatures of magic, but no longer dependent of its source. Drawn from the power of Sorcery, they were now creatures of emotion seeking balance in all things. Nature was their home, away from civilization and its ambitions, as they became both its students and protectors. Druidic magic was thus born.

This concludes our short foray into the origins of Sorcery and Druidism on our world of Morae. For more detailed information, please ask your mentors for the following books and manuscripts:
