India is no different than US right now because India's problems do not get as much exposure US gets.
I live in a city and I have visited quite a few villages and I have noticed people are conservative about religion and caste.
But thankfully the youth of India is much more free about these kind of things. They don't give a shit about religion and caste.
Can we address why the Rajputs venerate this distorted model of femininity where a woman's life is worth less than her "chastity"? That too based on a story which is at best partly true historically. Every community in India has made contributions to the nation and the Rajputs' contribution to the Indian army is not a get out of jail free card. This cancer of a "community's pride" in their bloody, regressive, made up history is at the root of what's wrong with India and needs to be rooted out.
Main reason why I won't watch it. Tired of female suicide in movies especially when depicted as preserving purity To me it is the most disgusting thing Especially stories like Odysseus, the man whores around on his journey but his wife must preserve her purity, even taking her own life to preserve it I call meeh Hahaha you just made my point and better I might add
We had protests and riots for a Baba which destroyed millions of rupees of property and there was a state of curfew in two states for a whole week. Do you know what that Baba did? He raped girls which were apparantly his followere and got his male followers castrated in some cases.
That shows a very sheltered, urban world view. Get out into the real world where 70% of India lives away from the metros and you will see that caste matters a lot. I've had people who work in leadership roles in major technology companies say shit like "This guy is from an IIT but he's so stupid. Must be an SC/ST reservation candidate." Also, look at your matrimonial ads. Less than 10% say "Caste no Bar" even in cities. There are well educated men and women who still want to marry only "Kshatriya" or "Brahmin" or "Reddy" or whatever. Lets please stop spreading this comforting lie that India is moving past caste. It hurts efforts to actually address the problem if you deny the existence of the problem.
Nope, education is the best tool for society. Religion can be deadlier than guns when coupled with ignorance. That's how extremist came to be.
It's not chastity, it's dignity. Khilji was not exactly a model of masculine virtue *inserts sarcasm*.Do a google search on him. And it was the decision of the queen and her followers; nobody forced her/she was not imposed upon. Rajput women are as fearless as their male counterparts. And you and I are in no position to discuss the evils of any community which we do not belong to or understand.
I thought all these mystical BS Baba were forbidden by Indian law, with actual enforcement and shit? How comes there are still some of them left on such scales? To be so uniquely backwarded and advanced at the same time, what a land.
I live in Punjab and thankfully there is a lot less of this caste and religion discrimination but it is much prevalent in states like Haryana, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
