this morning because i heard claris song in some web i felt nostalgic and directly open oreimo in my phone, however i was still with my junior and then he got curious and want to try reading it.
BUT, OREIMO is kind of niche right? for people who understand otakuism at some degree, there are many references and the ambiguous sibling relationship, what i suppose to say if he was going to ask some awkward thing
So i want to give something else but he say he got curious because of the song and have no interest in other

I already give him to read and this afternoon i asked him how it is, and he said its normal.

i want to ask, is OREIMO normal novel? that my mind conjured to be niche product?

Hmm....not a normal novel and not really a beginner novel I guess....Beginner novels are mostly just those slice-of-life novels.

You're correct. I wouldnt recommend Oreimo as a starting point. However, from the context you gave me, I would tell him to read it anyways. I know exactly how it feels to see something you like and just satisfy that curiosity and it's not like he can't just look up himself if he has a question.

I have seen only the anime of oreimo but if there aren’t many changes, the story is from the point of view of a non otaku. So you can more or less understand what’s going on, yes loosing some of the references, but if at the end he enjoy reading it who cares...

i don't think oreimo would be normal for some one new
i mean the sibling relation ship and otaku cultural refferences
toradora would be better recommendation, even some of my non otaku classmates watch the local broadcast of the anime

    NO, NO, NO, NO.

There are plenty of better newbie-friendly options, some of which have already been suggested, but i would say find a slice-of-life story first.

Oreimo is.... not for the faint of heart or those who hate rampant stupidity.
