Me and my cousins were discussing about the different superstition they have heard/learned from the different provinces of our country and I was really shocked and amazed at the same time since in our modern world people still believe in it. So here in NUF, I also want to hear your country's most outrageous superstitions that many of your fellow countrymen still believed in. Mine is: You must not sing while cooking or else you won't be able to get married. (no wonder I'm still single) I don't know the reason behind this just that my grandma would always tell me to not to sing while cooking.
More likely sanitation issue cause when you sing saliva get spit out to the food. You not marrying is just like the boggie man parent used to scare their kids in order to behave. How is that scary? Well, traditionally women cook at home and not marrying is scary for them especially in the past.
My dad has this superstition that if you're eating on the dinner table and you accidently drop your spoon, you would get a male visitor. Fork for a female visitor. Its happened at least once from what I remember.
The most outrageous superstition is that these give bad luck: Though the superstition that the above is good luck is spot on!
What country? Here..when I sing while cooking, my mama wud say my future spouse wud be way older than me..
I don't. well there had to be some sort of origin tho? but then again, supernatural stuff does happen time to time~
sometime, some form of superstition from one area is negating or the exact opposite of another area, sometime it just an ancient way of explaining shit they dont understand, sometime, because of the ancestor is too bored and have too much time, or because of their childern is causing headache, so they need a some kind of saying to silent them, then after the childern grow up and asking them the reason, they just made it up or just relate it to something to make them appear wise for the next elder council meeting.
I don't believe in superstitions but I follow many of them *cough walking under ladders cough* The weirdest i remember is that if a female blows into a didgeridoo they will fall pregnant.
Here in my country we got tons of superstition. Dont sleep if your hair is wet bcoz you might get blind Dont put your elbows on the table while eating Dont go home directly after coming from a funeral, bcoz the dead's soul might follow you Brake the rosary used during the last Mass on the last day of mourning so that no one from the family will die next
There's a lot of them... The one I like the most, is that if you put your keys on the table, the Devil gets pissed and steals your soul. You'll be haunted by bad luck for life, and afterwards you go to hell.
Hmmmm... I get the 'the amount of rice you leave on your plate would signify how scarred your spouse's face will be.'
My mom cares a lot about that, although it's called " Pamali' " in my place. Sometimes when I cut my nails at night, she's yelling like "Don't cut your nails at night,it's pamali' " Also once when I was whistles at night, she also saying things like that. When I ask the reasons, there's no proper answer and just saying it's pamali'....... There's also the extreme one, that's not my mother who saying it, but my aunt. I like to lying in stomach when I sleep, and when my aunt see me like this she says "Don't sleep like that or your father will be death" Oh god....
I care not for superstitions but the real curses and ill omens surrounding my country's olden land where mythical creatures are far hidden amidst the eyes.
I see some of u guys have similar superstitions as mine Don't whistle at night or u will attract a ghost The amount of rice left on ur plate equates to how much pimples ur future spouse will have on their face The more noise made in the kitchen (verbal noises) while cooking, the higher the chances of the dish being ruined Not to shower after midnight or your body will get cold air (makes ur body weak/easily sick) Don't step on books or u will enrage some god of wisdom I don't believe in them, but I have experienced some things a lil' bit supernatural making me question my sanity that made me more pissed than scared from staying up late.. Edit: On second thought, I guess there are some that I follow, from habit and I don't think much about them
My mom believes in superstitions while my father doesn't. You can't sweep the floor at night You can't cut your nails at night Don't sleep facing with your feet at the door My mom doesn't tell what will happen though
