Okay, backstory to my question: I am currently reading Main Charcter hides his strength and in it, they mentioned 'Regressors' and I thought that that was an apt label for such characters. So I began to think about the other MCs that I have read about and I recalled some that I can't quite label. Here are some MC classifications I know about: Reincarnated -MCs who start out as babies(or young creatures) with parents. Lilianne (Cloudy eyes Lilianne) Rimuru (Tensei Slime) Rudeus (Mushoku Tensei) Goburou (Re: Monster) Transported -MCs who goes to another world as they are. Subaru (Re: Zero) Hajime (Arifureta) Hiro (Monster Goshujin) Seiichi (Shinka no mi) Transmigrated -MC who goes to another world in a body of a dead person (old or young) Xuan (Chronicles of Primordial wars) Roland (Release that witch) Chen Feng (The strongest gene) Takumi (A new game from the depth of captivity) Regressor (just learned this term) -MCs whose consciousness travels back in time into their younger body. (Time leap) Randalph (Dungeon Hunter) Kaito (Nidome no yuusha)[i know that he is originally transmigrated] Zeff (Re: master magic) What I want to know is what to call these or if there are labels for these: -MCs who start out as babies(or young creatures) with no origin. Baby/young person out of the blue. (Not counting those whose origins could be a potential plot point like Death March) Ryouma (The man picked up by the gods) Amelia (tehe wolf) Takumi (isekai yururi kikou) -MCs who are thrust into roles(characters from games, etc.) Altrea (I decided not to compete and quietly creat dolls instead) Momonga/Ains(Overlord) Shin (The new gate) There are probably more MC classifications I missed but here are what I am asking for. I know I probably did not use your prefered example MC but that is not the point so don't cite new ones please. TL;DR Help me classify MCs that I pointed out. Thank you. Edit: corrected Transmigrator and added Transported Solved 1
How about "wanderer" or "lost people" I can't remember the title, but there's one JP novel that use "lost" as term for transmigrated ppl
That seems to be too much of a generalization to me though... there's too many examples of each to be just nuances... I like this but the connotation is slightly wrong XD Hmmm... could be... So there really are no labels for these yet?
Oh, i knew about Balud because i read a couple of chapters of the manga but don't know the other one so i thought that was a unique case... i'll add it Edit: on second thought, not gonna add it. We can discuss but not gonna add it to my post XD I sort of already said that other classifications won't be entertained but this is a compromise XD
Lost may refer to Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de iirc, just like Ryouma from TMPG, his body is created by god (he's originally 90 years old), Rei from Legend also included in this category.
I think you got transmigration wrong. Transmigration would be the possession of another's body and that would have subdivisions: Transmigration - soul posses body - Original died: --Another world soul: Rebirth of a Supermodel -- Same world: ---- Mysterious 'rebirth' Rebirth of The Heavenly Demon ---- Use of forbidden arts to invite a ghost in their body and achieve revenge: The Founder of Diabolism - Transmigrated in a character of a book: Transmigrator Meets Reincarnator - Transmigrated in a character of a game: My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending Rebirth - Regressor/2º chance Rebirth of the Rich and Wealthy Rebirth of the Tyrant: Regent Prince is too Fierce Reincarnation - In another world The Rebirth Waste Strikes Back Mushoku Tensei - In the same world Reborn as the Hero’s Daughter! Time to Become the Hero Once More! - In the world of a game/novel/manga Akuyaku Tensei Dakedo Doushite Kou Natta. Those who you said that were transmigrated are just transported to another world....
the rare species of rebirth on the same world would be Reborn as the Hero’s Daughter! Time to Become the Hero Once More!
You forget about mc that can go back and forth between two worlds. technically it is an isekai story. the only story that i remember is that the mc win a lottery and live in an old house with a portal to another world, not sure what the title is.
I know it's a little off the topic but what's with CN novels and name Roland for Western style MCs it's in as u pointed out Release That Witch , Experimental Logs Of The Crazy Lich and I know he wasn't the MC but the name Roland as a lot of significance in Law of the Devil as he was another reincarnated well those are the ones I know Back to topic we could call them transmigrator souls
Night Ranger is quite the case, because It is both a transmigration in a game world and a fusion soul with the original owner of the body. Do we have to make cross Isekai Category ?
I think those who die and take the bodies of living people or corpses while sometimes eating(merging with) the soul are called evil spirits, evil spirit protagonist seems the proper tag to me.
