Still, the one I really hate is that Wife is CEO something. The MC is a massive walking dick that didn't even qualified to be an MC in the first place.

I just agree Chinese harem suck most of the time.

 

It's easy to understand why when you look at the idol group model.
Look at BTS for instance, each member with different hair color to entice fans with different tastes and as many fans as possible.
These novels are pay to read.
It panders to the whims of as many readers as possible when you the protagonist having a romance with every skirt available.
Living vicariously through the protagonist becomes much easier.
That's why traditional publishing is better in this respect, it's a big problem in Korean dramas as they use to change the story to suit the audience, losing the soul of the story in the process.

 

For whatever reason the harem category has become synonymous with making the mc as masculine as possible and almost nothing about the relationships. And since hot or jade skinned girls better glorify the man, all the thought goes into individual characters rather than how the characters work or get along together.

Yeah at the end of the story off screen, I want the author to write it in the story and not avoid it like the plague.

I've only read your initial post , but I get the impression you're referring mainly to cultivation style novels. Not that the Japanese Isekai versons are much better, but MCs in cultivation novels just treats their harems like shit. Harem members are treated just little better then the participation trophies they hand out at elementary school level sporting events.

This is one of the reasons I've given up reading cultivation novels. The misogynistic and bigoted views, not to mention rape culture, and worst of all repetitiveness, just kill any enjoyment I get out of reading them. *sigh* sorry, pushed the wrong button...

Anyway, I don't really count (cn) novels anymore when it comes to the harem tag. Just because there was a gal 200 chapters ago the MC played with for a week and then moved on doesn't mean she's part of the harem. She's just a notch in the bed post, or a trophy on the wall he takes down to look at before forgetting it's existance again.

If you want a real novel with a proper harem I can give you a decent list to chooses from.

 

I cannot relate because I usually avoid harem. The novels that are written with dynamic between MC and one female lead are usually tagged as Josei just like "Transmigrator meets Reincarnator". My opinion on this is let people do what they want. There's no universal rule that banned them from reading harem anyway. NU accepts the harem novels, so why not?

If you don't like it, just avoid the harem tags. Tags are like warning signs along the way. Just like me...I so into Yaoi/BL/Shonen ai stuffs....but not anyone likes it. They use tags to guide them not to read it anyway....

I do not mind harems when they are written decent, biggest annoyance is when girls are taken away from the MC for plot that lasts hundreds of chapters and then he works to get stronger picking more girls up on the way.

Weirdest thing is that while having more than 1 wife is not always weird in the novel's world the MC is often a reincarnated soul from the modern world. Also the MC's parents are often separated but loyal to only each other yet the collecting of girls is never really seen as weird by anyone around him who sometimes are also loyal to their love interests.

 

What's the point of a harem if there's no physical interaction?

something like wish fulfillment? but for all ages males? if they want intercourse they can read mature novels or erotica I guess?

 

My problem with harems in novels are the harems. They're all crap, women are forgotten when the size reaches a certain point and the male makes it seem as if it's his duty to breed everything with a hole.

 

Hey, it's a trade, for CN, your harems are tasteless and your MC is super competent, but for JP, your MC is the one who is tasteless and your harems are competent.

 

That's far more true than I would like to admit.
