tony never really gave a concrete number, iirc. i only remember he said 'few times/day'. if i were to make a guess, i'd say at most 4/day, at least 2/day. (because i once waited 4 hours, to no avail).

is there a difference in time between reading list and the main page? I often notice that there's a new update that the update is placed in the second page of novel updates but it's place at the top of my reading list.

not quite sure i understand, but for now, what's the setting you use for your reading list? 'unread' or 'latest'?

also, a day equals to 4 to 6 pages.

Is it something to do with the timings added to NU versus timing added to creators website.
Or just the way in which one of the lists adds it is broken/weird?

Maybe the main page updates every 5 or so minutes while the novel's page lists the chapter the moment it is added, manually or by bot

each Entry (release/chapter) has two sets of dates. Displayed Dates (DD), and Sorting Date (SD).

DD is what you'll see on novel page.
SD on the other hand, is invisible.

DD is used to tell ppl when was the Entry supposedly was released at its original location/site (let's ignore mis-dated Entries for now)

    SD is used to sort the Entry to a spesific location. examples where SD plays its part are;
    • pushing a part of multiple/bundled releases so that it wont crowd the main page.
    • re-arranging chapters when a novel has multiple translators, or the translator is releasing different volume simultaneously (check Hundred's page 4, for example. keep an eye on the dates you see of releases from Taekan)
    • pushing an older dated release (but were freshly submitted) to front page
the most crucial function of SD is that it reduces redundancy (i'm not going to explain in-depth about this, it'll took too much time. i'm a slow typist. i'm already spending quite some time for this post :sweating_profusely:)

now that i somehow explain DD and SD, i can finally tell you that Reading List use DD for its sorting. that's why you still see a chapter at the top, even though it was not on main page anymore.
for another example, let's say Taekan released the Hundred v4c3 tomorrow (oct 6, 2017). Because reading list uses DD, you will still see the chapter at the top section in your reading list, even after any mods 'sort' the release to page 4 (of Hundred's page). which we usually won't, at least not immediately, otherwise the chapter will be gone from main page. >.>

It's OK, it's not like snakes have 10 fingers to type.
    :blobparty:Good job explaining it.

oh, that's why I see it strange sometimes. the cause is the difference between my timezone and translator's timezone or is it?

Looks like taekan/hundred's release pattern is giving you lot of stuff to sort :cookie:

That was informative, and makes total sense.

I'm assuming your question is, why some releases aren't on the Main Page even though it is supposed to be listed there based on its time of release?

We (staff) pushed them back due to reasons. Most of the time it's because of this:
There can be many reasons a release is pushed back/forth but most of the time, it's because we try to avoid overcrowding of the front page. While this may cause some inconveniences to users, it is a necessary move to prevent Front Page hogging, or spam by certain groups or projects.

Aside from that, there are also chances that the releases are not on auto-approved or stuck in pending queue. Therefore, it relies on staff availability to manually check and approve those releases. In such cases, the release would also caused a strange addition on your Main Page. For example, a release was submitted by a user. However, there was no staff to approve it. 30 minutes later, a staff finally approved it. That release would be buried somewhere among the releases of 30 minutes ago.

And that is why there are some strange-ness on your Main Page.

NU is UTC 0, so the time of my post (this one) is 10:03 pm, oct 5

and time difference between you--nu--translator does sometime makes it weird.
