It's all subjective regardless. My Western sex ed didn't teach a single one of your "vanilla" tags except from "nudity" and "first-time intercourse". Some members of this society still think that anal and cunnilingus is super out there. Just because you prefer your version doesn't mean that anyone else will, so why should they use it?

Also, sometimes it's not about wanting just "vanilla" or "extreme". In fact, it's pretty often much more than that. People might be into a lot of things but only want to read one particular thing, e.g. the aforementioned "cunnilingus only".

As for novels that don't have adult genre even though they could fit... *shrugs* That's a problem of users not adding the genres properly, can't be helped.

Nope, none. They are extremely incompetent. In fact, there was a crappy law that they couldn't "promote homosexuality" in schools up until 2003.
Gay men don't need anal and lesbians don't need cunnilingus, though...

2003, for sex ed in class you would have too be 11th/ 12th grad so going generous with 17, so you should be 33 this year.

It was an example of how incompetent they are. Don't think for a second that they changed overnight to incorporate education for us. In fact, if you go down to the "Academies" section of the Wiki page I linked, it even details how many schools still tried to write a version of Section 28 into their own policies.

Sex education was only very recently revised again, and it still avoids explicit LGBT+ sex education and you can choose to have your child not receive it.

Not to mention that all this was banned from being produced in UK porn because it's "too extreme". So by their definition, calling someone names during sex belongs in your C.U.M section.

My point is, don't count on using "Western standards" to "objectively" decide the categories.

mature: contains themes or action (normally sex orviolence) that you have to be mature (whatyever that means) to comprehend
smut: one of the above especially tailored to women so adult+josei

 

Yes, I told you just a few messages ago that the definition is not intuitive, doesn't mean that the mods and the people active in tag/genre cleanup don't know what they're supposed to mean.

Having them separate is pretty useful, I know that I should avoid adult novels unless I'm in the mood for it. Mature novels I can read whenever.

 

I really don't see any other reasons for combining tags other than to decrease the number of tags.

I'm against this just because it means that the tags will be less accurate.

I mean, tag cleanup doesn't hurt for as long as a given tag is useless and can easily be merged into another. It's how we went from 1300ish to 700ish tags... But rn it's really hard to remove any tag without hurting people's ability to find what they want, so it'll probably remain like that for the near future.

 

At least you have t consider th vanilla tag and the 11 it replaces

 

Vanilla doesn't include anal, fellatio, handjob and threesome in my books. And I surely don't want to see any of those when I want to read a vanilla R-18 work.

I dunno what cunninglus and paizuri are, so I'll refrain from commenting on those though.
