You're probably the same person on reddit. I've explained it on reddit and I'll repeat it here. It was done by a newcomer, please don't be so unforgiving towards a newcomer.
Newcomer or not, to forget even the gender of the MC means the editor didn't care. While "He instead She" or "She instead He' is a very common typo to make is also very easy to find and fix. Is very important to have the editor be a native English speaker to spot errors people who just learned English as a second language ignore because it doesn't sound weird to them. You have to be very careful to try to avoid lowering the translation quality because that ends with downvotes and people dropping the series. Take She Professed Herself The Pupil Of The Wiseman as an example. The Light Novel translation is very well done while the Web Novel translation is so bad it looks like was made using google as a translation tool. To the point I do not read the Web Novel translation anymore. Sadly the LN translation has not updated since last year. If you lack an editor you can get a few beta readers or do "pre releases" of chapters to have people spot the errors. Maybe you could do first a google docs release with only comments on so people can point you the mistakes and things like that. It might delay the releases for a few days but is better to wait a bit to get better quality, otherwise everyone would just use google-sensei for their translation needs.
Just want to say ... all of the MMo's follow the same basic modus of operandi ... so just on those small similarities you cant really say that its that certain game as an inspiration.
The new TLer is already improving much after the huge blunder that was Chapter 36. Thank you for your concern. We appreciate readers who are concerned with our series and hope that we do well in our translation. I, for one, can see that our new translator is trying hard to improve. She really made it a point to do better in translating, and I can see the effort there. I agree that it was a serious mistake on our part to miss the mistakes she made in translation, but personally think that the guy went too far by condemning her for using "MTR"
@Jimminx Theres always ppl like that, using terms loosely and not caring for the person on receiving end just to prove their point. I, for one, sincerely hope the new translator to not be offended so much as there are ppl like me who appreaciates the time and effort spent on these translations. Thank you again! On another note, Reign of hunters is my latest fave on the VRMMORPG department. Loving it so far, thanks for the treat!
All you've done is say that "she was not using MT", without giving any plausible explanation on how a human can write something like "rubbing an arrow" outside of a porn fanfic. Novice or not, trying to pass off MT as your own work is not something that should be tolerated - it is a great insult to all the translators that do it properly. And the last time I checked, the chapter was still as unreadable as it was then it was first released, so you haven't even tried to fix all those mistakes.
If we take a look at the detailed descriptions and also notice that most of the story is filled with quite a bit small details that are not lost in translations .. it is safe to assume it is not a MT ... MT looses generally all those details in translation and the whole thing will feel rough like a bare chested man with a really hairy chest
So far its been good .. Cant say much about anything else since there is only about 40 chapters of it
Easiest way to determine that a chapter was MTRed: read it as MT, look at things that are cryptic/unreadable in it - then look at the translation and see if those things became any more clear. In the case of this chapter, things that were mistranslated in the MT were still just as gibberish in the release.
Well I'll continue saying that she did not use MTL because I've seen her typing the translation out line by line instead of "BAM!" and entire paragraph appeared out of thin air. So yeah, I trust my eyes. I've been polite thus far, and I'll try my best to continue being polite. And yeah. Midnight did not use MTL
Yeah, from the chapters that have been released so far, it finally feels like a VRMMORPG story that won't be utterly terrible. I look forward to seeing it develop. (Enough so that I made an account just to rate it and reply here ^^)
Personnaly, the "rubbing an arrow" didn't bother me. I don't know the in game modus operandi for manufacturing arrows. In any cases, arrows need to be smooth and one need to polish them. Using rubbing to polish things is a well known technic. Accordingly, continuing a crafting session by rubbing arrows is not really strange imo. And especially not something that only appears in porn fanfic. It seems that our dear commentator has read too much of those and cannot separate the meaning of rubbing from sexual acts. Honestly I don't know how the translation should have been, but the one used did not break immersion nor led to deform the message in the context of it's use: rubbing here was clearly implying a link with crafting. Regards.
When it comes to wood, you cut it, you glue it, you hammer it, you carve it and you sand it with sandpaper or literal sand You do not polish it unless is a piece of furniture or an ornament or to make a finished piece look good. The only reason she would be rubbing wood is if she rubs one stick of wood into another to make fire. While the game mechanics could have her rubbing arrows, the whole point if the game so far is how realistic it is while still playing like a game. She most likely was crafting an arrow or sharpening it. Maybe carving it? Sanding the arrow is quite possible since crafting seems to take a lot of time in thr game and that would make the arrows more precise. Of course is still a videogame, while metal arrows in real life would just have metal arrow tips due to weight is quite posible than in the game the full arrow is made of metal despite how in RL that would make them a tad heavy. I hope she eventually forms her own guild with all the friends and allies she has been making in the game. That would fit with her goal of being a pro gamee yet not be a loner. Also I am glad that she is not as crazy as the guy in Emperor Of Solo Play.
Oh and I've set up a Patreon for fun. *Cough cough* not that I mind if anybody pledged to the patreon yanno *cough cough*
I might be late on the "screwed up translation" incident but heres my thought. MC game name is Gongzi You (公子幽) . "Gongzi" here usually used to refer son of nobility / official. Nowadays people use this to refer children of influental person (be it from money , politics , etc). Remember the part when they say this IGN is gender neutral and didnt think MC is a girl ? "You" here is hidden / secluded.
