I think this was a Korean novel? Some veteran soldier gets reincarnated/goes back in time to when he first joined the army and starts impressing/awing people with his strength. I think his weapon was a spear? And he had a genius archer friend person. In the beginning their squad gets ambushed by monsters (goblins?) at some sort of ravine place I think.
I have yet to find stories with pure sword masters. Most of the time they are all-rounders. But guys with spears are something else. It becomes something akin pet for them. The only thing they don't do with them is rubbing it intensively. That too. If magic - necromancer (or at least one skill should be necromancy related). If warrior - spearman.
Hmm I dunno I think Chinese stories have more spearman in them as weapon of choice after sword a lot of koreon melee weapon users tend to focus on daggers from stories I’ve read and why no Korean healer stories I mean or chinease for that matter I wanna see some new takes on healer bros besides pervert kuns from japan
In Chinese novels weapon usually something akin accessory. Usually more into martial arts and palm arts or whatever. Weapons are something ordinary there and not a fetish. They are more about ramping up as much money as possible to the point of rivaling the whole countries. Daggers usually is a support weapon in novels, because you can throw it and thus deal with "dangerous situation".
