Ever since I found the entrance to the pirate realm and ascended, qidan was left far behind and forgotten

We found the same path. The pirate realm made me forget about those things. I have long reached the realm where spirit stones can't stop me.

When I was young, I used to to be a outer disciple of a small sect in the pirate realm but then I offended some nobles or should I say "I have eyes but fail to recognize Mt Tai". And I got thrown out of the realm. Thankfully they didn't cripple my cultivation. So now I'm living as Web Admin for a small sect in the lower realm.

Lesson learned:"Never Go Full Retard in the Pirate Realm, There are too many strong cultivators there."

    Lmao just kidding...

Only if you want to die a horrible and painful death.
No. The correct usage of a spirit stone is to have it near you whilst meditating, preferably in hand.
As you circulate your spiritual energy throughout your body, the spiritual energy that makes up the spirit stone will get drawn in alongside and add up to your own spiritual energy reserves, hastening its recovery.

Do not use a spirit stone if your own reserves are already full. Just like stuffing a full stomach will make it burst, so shall meridians when pushing too much energy through them.

Use the stones only when you need a speedy recovery or using a purification technique to improve the quality of your spiritual energy.
