I'm making this post because i recently (minutes ago) got triggered by a guy basically saying that the only reason i read asian novels is because i don't want to read anything "complicated" or "serious" (implying there are no complicated or serious asian novels) he also said they have no literature value which is why they are called "light novels" (the definition of light novels are basically japenese novels targeted at teens) so he has no idea what the fuck he is talking about and basically made light of asian novels saying that they don't have any literature value and are very simple with next to no plot (that's basically what he means with "complicated" and "serious")
so i ended up ranting a response at him explaining that he's full of shit and also telling him why i prefer asian novels to western ones, so that kinda got me thinking (hmm, i haven't made a post in forever so might as well make one) so here i am!
i want to know why you like asian novels, that's basically it.
my reasons are simple, i have 2 big reasons.
    1. the themes, there's just something about the chinese themes that interests me, whether its xianxa where a guy starts from nothing and goes on a VERY long journey to basically become a god, or whether its those other novels that are situated somewhere in the past of chinese lore.
either way they interest me a lot more than the western themes which are mostly real life with a spice of supernatural, or sci fi, or about the future/past with plots about what we dreaded learning in history class.
    2. the length.
the western ones are way too short.
    like wtf.
i can read a 300 page book in a few hours like whats the point?
like ffs the whole harry potter series took me the same amount of time to read as 250 chapters of i shall seal the heavens, and where harry potter ended i shal seal the heavens barely started.
i dont like short stories, i want stories that are long, that i can read for literally days or even weeks.

yeah thats basically it, could prob think of some other reasons but this post is boring as is, no point making it even more boring, so why do you read asian novels?

Tastes, man. It all comes down to tastes.
You don't say you like boobs, in front of a guy who likes ass.
You don't say you like Google, in front of a guy who likes Apple.
You don't say you like tsunderes in front of a guy who likes Yanderes.
You don't say you like ATG in front of a guy who likes ISSTH. Well, you get the point?

I read them since I wanted to find the original content that anime are made from. Now it's because I've been caught in a trap that I don't want to get out of.

To be honest, he makes a good point...
The reason I read Asian novel is because I want to read about either, an OP character that overcomes all problems with style (aka wish fulfillment) or a cute fluffy, happy feeling novel (aka running away from my problems).
And fact is, I can't find a lot of western novel that are like that so.....

And I don't have much exposure to Western novels, so I still haven't read them to the point of liking.

I'm the guy who triggered him, though I already explained to him that I'm saying the vast majority of NU novels are light even if they are CN or KR, and not all asian novels in general. This guy is full of shit and takes my words out of context.

I like asian novels because for whatever reason people just turn a blind eye when someone is murdered in cold blood in the middle of the street. When I first read that I was like, "Yes. This is how it should be."

you did say in your second response that "not all asian novels are light" but after that you still proceeded to say that asian novels are a level or 2 down from western ones.
i didn't take your words out of context in fact i did my best not to.
you said "you did not find a single one you liked, novels here don't really have any literature value, that's why they're called light novels. The reason you didn't like any of the western ones is because you don't want to read something complicated or serious," like what other way am i supposed to interpret that?

Strong MC, supernatural, fictional power, logic epic story, epic battle, etc. That's the minor reason I guess.
But if you ask me for one point, I guess it's because eastern novel is more...coloured
