Recommendations space travel

i'm looking for novels where the human mc somehow ends up going on a journey trough space, but with the rest of humanity still incapable of space travel.
In other words i don't want the mc to be aware of alien society before going on the journey

 

Could you give an example? Or maybe elaborate?
