ML is a figurehead emperor being held in captivity by the royal advisor. MC's father sends him into the palace dressed up as the selected empress for the 17 year old emperor. MC secretly teaches emperor literature, martial arts, the art of war, etc. Emperor falls for MC but MC is resistant and keeps putting distance between them. He has to pretend to be the empress for 2 years. Emperor knows but helps him hide. Lots of things happen. I agree that Imperial settings are usually filled with drama...and I'm one for the happy types. I don't mind politics at all but MTL doesn't make it easier.... sooooo is this cute? This actually reminds me of Aloof king and cool acting queen....is it anything like it?

It’s mostly drama, but not romance drama. The emperor is trying to get control back for most of the novel. It’s supposed to be HE. Lots of descriptions of intrigue and war.
