Rumours moslty effects women, men can just go over it and no matter how powerful you are its hard to keep all the motuhs shut.. but something like divorce and sterility is a very senstive subjects, its so stupid to point at such things and expect to be ignored especially when they are wrong, its not the duchess did something dumb and people laughed at it its someone " making up" stuff. And not sure if i remember wrong but the duke once pointed to not speach ill of chole ( but its a scen i saw randmoly in my explore some time a go correct me if i was wrong).

Power is key when dealing with such rumours as seen by how the duke handles the countess . It’s the survival of the fittest , men or women doesn’t make a difference here I believe .
