v3c91 part1: After all this talk about making charcoal from grass, I had to find out how it's done. I already knew that to make charcoal from wood, you need to slow burn it in a low oxygen environment, ie within an oven-like enclosure. But I couldn't visualize how you'd do that with grass without burning up the grass, being that an individual grass clipping has so much less mass than, say, a tree branch. Unfortunately, none of the youtube videos mentioning using grass as a source for charcoal actually showed doing it with grass. After watching several videos, I extrapolated the process to possibly being: mince the grass to small bits compress the bits to a thin log shaped slow burn the grass log into charcoal depending on whether the resultant grass charcoal log can hold its shape smash grass charcoal into dust combine the charcoal dust with wet flour (used as a sticky medium) using a forming tool, compress the charcoal dust + flour into a briquette In case you're interested, the most relevant videos I could find are: First: making charcoal from compressed saw dust: Second & third: making charcoal briquettes from charcoal dust:
