well there are several reasons why you only ever encounter dumb mc in jpn and korean novels

in korean novels, the mc is usually a poor dude who had to drop out from school to lay bricks so you cant really expect him to be as smart as batman. also note that almost everything we read online are web novels and not actual books

then in jpn, again almost 99% of the stuff we read online are web novels and for some odd reason, all of them are written in a laid back diary format. also none of web novel authors seem to be able to detach themselves from the japanese style of mannerism that they are taught.

however in CN, we have these straight up MC who knows everything from farming to rocket science, and then does stupid things that even a dog wouldn't do.

welp, i guess a stupid mc would be better for authors to cover up their discrepancies? or maybe they look stupid because of whatever direction of plot the author is trying to force on them

Yeah, most of the times its just the author beeing stupid. Just not having the capability to write a intelligent and complex plot. Its hard to come up with new stuff and the money you can earn with low effort in writing a generic plot seems kinda like a good idea for them. I'd rather have a mc who doesnt need fancy descriptions and isnt as a amazing, but at least he doesnt contradict everything that gets written about him. You see it waaay to often how "intelligent" mc's are morons. Exactly like how the good and just mc's are spawn of hell, behaving like the lowest scum even in chinese novels.
