Discussion The Value of The Like

Let us talk about the value of the like, shall we?
While this is not the most important discussion to be had on this site, it is an interesting one nonetheless and one that I want to have. Likes are an important part of NUF. People with more likes tend to be more well known and more popular(ofc this is not always the case). Likes can be a way of showing support and giving value to a post. As such we can almost view likes as a currency( at least I like to). If likes can be viewed as a currency then we can build a sort-of "likes" economy. Using this economy we can assign values to likes. And these likes are used to assign values to posts and comments.

In early days of NUF likes has immense value, higher than the current value of the like. There a few reasons for this. First, likes were scrutinized by a higher standard. Meaning what was worthy of like then vs now is much different. Likes back then were much harder to earn. Second, there were fewer user and therefore fewer people to like comments. Of course the value of the like cannot be said to be so much higher because of the existence of so called "liking" threads. And the fact that likes were unlimited in nature. Likes as currency is this state were rather unstable in nature. The value would fluctuate greatly under such circumstances. However the value of the like was still higher by a statistically significant amount imo.

Now NUF has far more active members as the community has grown. As the number of members increase as do the amount of likes existing in the "market". This is inflation. Just as if you would print more money money would devalue. Likes have been devalued by this upsurge in amounts of likes in the market. However, a counter measure against this is the regulations of likes. Every 24 hours a user can only use a certain amount of likes. This limits your "liking power". You only have so many likes and you have to think about how you use each one more carefully. This adds some value to each like.

Anyways I bastardized basic economic principles and spent 10 minutes writing this just turn likes in some kind of economic system. (so bored) Whatever just trying to say that I believe the value of each like is slowly descending. Not that it matters anyway. (so bored)

why would we? isn't it just for value adding ego boosting whatchamacallit. it depends on the 'we' that decide it. what if 'we' decide to give value to dog crap? what then?
