fyi, my group tried to do a collab with someone/group from the outside. guess what? we failed miserably. it may sound laughable but we became traumatized from working together with someone from outside the group. the worst thing is this has happened not only once. for the first case was about money. the person wanted to do the next chapter for a sponsored chapter but the way he said it was mortifying and we decided to translate the light novel version out of frustration. but he said that we are going for the light novel out of greed, geez! and the second case was about communication. the translator was, umm, kept producing mtls and impossible to reach (as in communication)

Seems to be pretty tough... orz

It's hard when the interests of both parties don't match, and even tougher when communication lacks... It's really hard to work like that.

I think it's usually better to work together only with the people you trust. *nod nod*

    thanks!
    lol
I think the key is to be transparent, have an open communication and respect the majority. What held us together was that we loved doing what we were doing and we had fun doing it together! I'm not expecting everyone to stay on for the long haul but just for the duration that you're working on the project.
I know right? I wasn't expecting it either at that time. It just kinda happened. I just offered to help then later on people just came up to me asking to join. I learned a lot and I taught what I learned. It was a give and take. It was fun while it lasted.

Long story short the readers are the consumers/customers and translators are the service providers/business owners and instead of pretending to be "fan translations". It is a business and needs to be run as one.

    You can't have your cake
aka $ from translating via ads, patreon
and eat it too aka slow pace, monopolize the novels.

Which is why you have "hijacking allowed" in most of your threads?

It's only a business if it's ran as one! Translators that don't work like a business don't work like business! \(^^)/

Most translators don't bother with trying to get a cake via the translation, rather, they share the cake that only they have access to, to other people, by doing all the job of cutting it and delivering it to people's hands!

Exactly! Hijacking threads is fun! \(^^)/

Well, I rarely hijack things doing by others though, not really nice to the OP after all... I do think it's a lot more fun when threads get hijacked though.

Nah, people always feel entitled these days.....
I still remember the day of yore, where reading a novel translation is a privilege, not a right.
But now everyone is screaming: Where's my dope! The irony is, they are usually non-paying leechers...

Yeah, old one. But we keep receiving new readers that think a translation is something that can be done in a single sitting...........
Say hello to the 47000 words of Chapter 4 of Kuro no Iyashite........ My head asplode....
Even a SoL novel like Nan Chatte Cinderella had 4700 words prologue..........

    EDIT:
    For new readers.
    Please remember, that :
    1. Unlike many CN translators, most JP translators are not native Japanese. So our fluency varies. Many CN translators are of Chinese descent, I don't think I had any Japanese blood on mine though...
    2. Japanese webnovel chapters are usually 3000 to 6000 words long (8 to 16 Word pages). Depend on the translator speed and the difficulty of the source it could take 3 to 12 hours to translate a chapter.
    3. There are 2 type of translators out there: The first type use GoogleTranslate or similar MT and then edit them out. The second type manually translate each sentence. The latter is time consuming.
    4. LN RAWs in the internet are mostly in PNG/JPG format. LN Translator needs to OCR them first and check the text for OCR error (OCR is error-prone) before translation even begin. And in some case, the Translator need to scan a physical copy of the LN. This takes as much time as translating.
