So thing is I'm writing something so I wanted to ask, which would you prefer:

1.) Sivi: "Leon, Don't do this!"
2.) Sivi said, "Leon, you're so lazy."

It depends on the overall format of what you want to write. Typically, however, you'd wanna go with 2 if you're not going for a particular format or style.

I'd still go for the second one. First is mainly used for scripts.

I'd go for 2, the classical style. You'd typically want something that can be easily read, style 1 is pretty unusual outside of scripts and I've only seen a handful of novels actually use them. A problem 1 has that 2 doesn't is that 2 is much more free to be expressive.

For example, you could play with variations of "said", like glowered, guffawed, snarled, etc.. It's much more flexible than the 1 and allows you to get more expression out of your characters.

Also, as @Kansuou said, 1 is really only used on acting scripts.

I write in the second format. The first one feels like a skit.

I actually avoid the first type of writing style. I don't read scripts and find them too dry. For the second type, I feel more comfortable with the dialogue part first, narration behind it.

The second option is the best way to do it.
You only see the first one in these novels (mostly JP novels) because alot of the JP web authors can't be bothered to indicate who is speaking at all. The TLers do everyone a service by adding in names.

I also use 2 mostly except when I write a comedic dialogue, I use 1
1 is best used sparingly for comedic purposes... my own opinion lol

I need to agree in this one, little after-chapter-conversation between characters, for example, can be really funny with 1, give it a try :blobmelt:
