When a one is divorced with another does that mean the person who bought the ring take it back. I imagine you divorced for a reason and would like to at least pawn it or whatever to get some money back.

Although I do encourage freedom, is this the type that should be asked on a novel forum?

I don't think the wife need to return the ring unless the court told them so, or she willingly give it back or throw it at your face.

If it's given as a gift, then there is no need to give it back. However, some women choose to give it back anyway to avoid any loose ends, and to ensure that the other side understands that it is truly done and over and that the woman doesn't owe the man anything. Some men insist on it being given back, not because it can be pawned, but because it is to ensure that there is no confusion over the status of the relationship. If you are in dilemma over whether or not to return the ring, just return it, unless you want to keep it for nostalgia's sake and the man doesn't ask for it back.

In some cases, it is less about personal feelings and more about memories. For example, the ring he gave you might've belonged to the brides of his family since 200 years ago, last worn by his mother. Even if it is a cheap ring made of plated silver, it has value to him being an heirloom, so you should give it back even if he doesn't ask for it. It may not be written in the prenup, but it just shows your decency as a human being.
