The best fantasy about being transported to another world (which is somewhat uncommon in western fantasy) is the Fionavar Tapestry (a trilogy) by Guy Gavriel Kay. In fact, all of Kay's books are fantastic, especially the standalone Tigana, one of my all-time favorite books. His fantasy series (but not Tigana or Fionavar) often have parallels to Earth and historical events, but with different names and of course slightly different events.

No Return by Zachary Jernigan has astronaut wizards. It's also speculative fantasy though, so the word cliche does not exist at all in relation to it.

Second for Malazan. It's my all time favorite fantasy series. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (and Brandon Sanderson) is a classic.

If you want to read a series that is ongoing, The Stormlight Archive is among the best. One of the most interesting magic systems ever developed.

Also, for a very classic western fantasy with many of its tropes (and also one of the best portrayals from a first-person perspective) read Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

And for some of the best characters of fantasy, read the Fitzchivalry Farseer trilogies.

I could say more, but I tried to target what you wanted.

Hmm... I guess a lot of books by Piers Anthony would fit what you're looking for. Some are mildly NSFW (Xanth Chronicles), others are stronger (the Adept series), and the most NSFW of all would probably be the Chromagic series or his Erotic Fantasy novels. These are all epic fantasy novels, though, written by a horny old man.

If you want more modern-day urban fantasy with some NSFW scenes, there's Laura Anne Gilman's Retrievers series (magic thief gets drawn into political conspiracies between factions while maintaining a romantic relationship with her handler/agent), and Kim Harrison's The Hollows series (witch lives with lesbian vampire and makes deals with demons for the greater good).

And then, of course, you have Gini Koch's Alien (Katherine Katt) series, which is comic-book sci-fi inspired. (Woman gets caught up in secret war between aliens and monsters living on earth. Just happens that all of the aliens look like super-hot models.)

And No Return is very NSFW in case you're wondering. It's very graphic and in your face about it too.
