What does "Yatta Desu ne" mean?

I have heard pewdiepie say it a lot. I feel like it means something like "I did it!", but if I remember back to how I know it, it's from animes and in my memories it feels like they only say "Yatta"...so what does "Desu ne" really mean?
I feel like it doesn't have a specific meaning but I'll depend on you guys to somehow explain it.

...it seems I "feel" a lot of things for this one line, lol. I feel like I overused that word.

 

Desu ne doesn't have literal translation into English. Depending on the sentence, context and tone, it can mean a lot but mostly would be translated as "right?"

 

It's like 'You did it! eh/huh!'

Also lol at thinking Pewdiepie knows anything.

 

Depending on the context. And the characters mannerisms.

I think its just expressing the feeling of accomplishment.


Like Yatta : Finally!!
Or Yatta : I did it!
Or Yatta : Yesssss!!!!

 

It's a speech extension.

I usually remember it as 'yes?' for how I usually hear it being used.

 

The "desu part" is just an emphatizer/empathizer; basically, it's just looking for confirmation in a polite way. The whole sentence is usually translated as "I did it! didn't I?" or something along those lines.

Sounds like pewdiepie is a weeb, big suprise. Yatta means something like "hurray!" Ofc connecting that with desu ne which means something like "right?" doesn't make any sense.
It's just common sense after watching so many anime, I don't actually know Japanese.

 

Most pretty much have the right meaning if it. It is contextual and can in some circumstances be used as a question instead of using ka. Most cases though its a rhetorical. Yatta desu ne, he did it, didnt he.

Yatta is the ta-form(past tense) of yarimasu, which means "to do/will do". It is a synonym with shimasu and can be used interchangeably although I would say shimasu is more often used in more formal situations.

Desu, use to know this but as I think the absolute meaning is just it being used to affirm that something is. Not quite like the existence verbs iru and aru. But kinda like used when no other verb is present to indicate it.

Ne, well oddly enough long ago my Japanese my teacher back then just said it meant, "isn't it." To put it simply. So we would be putting "isn't it" following all our sentences that had it for quizzes. Took awhile to understand it can be a bit more subtle than that.

It can but I would say it depends on the delivery.

I feel say yours would be more like:

Yatta deshou ne
I probably did it, didnt i./(s)he probably did it, didn't (s)he.

Yatta desu ne
More often is you are sure u got it right and just being "matter a fact" sort of thing.

 

I'd consider it like 'amirite' lol.

 

So what does "Desu" mean then?

 

It's the polite form of the Japanese copula—in other words, the rough equivalent of the English "be" verb. But "desu ne" is used as an idiom a lot of the time to ask for or give confirmation. A more casual form of the same thing would be "da (yo) ne".

Edit to add: Not that pewdiepie is using it as an idiom. It sounds like he's using it like an ignorant weeb. You wouldn't normally add it to "yatta."

 

He's low-key poking fun at weebs and how they use overly cheerful and girly anime-zed language...like Yatta desune~, when normally you'd only say Yatta! and be done with it.

I can't say its exactly the same, there are parallels with it. There isnt a Japanese equivalent to amirite, the way u would think.

Closest I can think of for amirite, is like
Atarimee da. Corrupted form of atarimai desu.
Literal meaning is "that is right."

Depending on delivery u can take it like "damn right it is." Or I guess it can mean amirite, its not too far of a stretch just depends on delivery and context.
