Stuff happens, ML’s subordinates know that MC can control ghost so they are wary of him. Stuff happens, MC helped ML took the throne. Stuff happens, ML slept with MC but afterward afraid of MC’s reactions so he left. Stuff happens, ML is now Emperor, MC want to speak to him but ML’s subordinates said that ML doesn’t want to see MC. Stuff happens, MC decided to go on a journey, he helped an old man, the man took him to a mountain and taught him stuff. When MC doesn’t want to stay there anymore, he ran down the mountain but hundreds of years have pass. It’s like an on land Urashima Taro story happened. The ML of arc 2 asked if MC love the Emperor (ML’s previous life), MC said he did, ML then cried cuz previous incarnation believed that MC hates him for what he did. The previous ML after finding out what happens to MC (being chased off by ML’s subordinates and was told that ML doesn’t want to see him) got really angry. He proceed to make a wanted poster of some sort and post it all over the country to let MC knows that ML want him to come back and the previous thing is a misunderstanding. ML also ordered that there will be no curfew in the capital, so that the gate is always open to welcome MC back. ML was always waiting at the inn where the view overlook the gate into the city. This inn became really famous later and this is where the conversation took place. After ML of second arc hears MC’s side of the story. He was crying because his previous self died beliebing that MC hates him and doesn’t want to come back.
Oh my, quite sad poor ML and MC, they both got screwed by the subordinates So ML and MC both remember their previous lives? Is that standard or did MC have to jog ML‘s memories?
ML didn't remember, but people treated him as a reincarnation of the legendary emperor (ML in first arc), because (iirc) his looks and temparament were exactly the same, and most nights he'd have dreams of his first life. He'd always forget MC's face once he woke up tho, so he didn't recognize MC when they first met in the second arc. But he did feel a strong urge to be close to MC. While MC.. he didn't really lose his memory, since for him only a few months had passed. The mountain he entered to train his ghost-controlling power apparently had some weird time paradox thing in it, because although he was only there for 6months, by the time he came out 600years had passed instead.
If anyone has read further, pease help me answer this. Does ML have memories of previous reincarnations? Does MC live forever and has to wait or does he also go through reincarnations? What is MC's powers or abilities? Are there concubines, consorts or wives? The final ending is a HE with them both alive or is it one where they finally rest in peace? Thank you for answering.
1. No 2. I don’t remember the end of second or third arc. But in that later 3~4 arc and later, a temple/grave/monument thing was built and ML’s body laid there (which turn into dust in time) and MC is sleeping in an open coffin with glass (I imagine it’s like Snow White’s coffin) which is filled with liquid that will help keep MC body safe and retain it while he’s sleeping. 3. Live on forever? Using his blood to control ghost? Later he became a ghost doctor that treats ghost-related diseases. 4. None 5. He did become emperor in arc 1-3, but Idk whether it's from the same lineage or not since 600 years has passed each time. Fun fact tho, ML becomes King of Hell in arc 3 lol.
I stopped reading after arc 3 (1 arc is about 40 chapters), because this was one of the first novels I tried MTL-ing and ancient setting + ghost elements + first time MTL = massive headache @kiara8 might know more

There is way too many details in this story to make a detailed summary, but the gits fro arc 1 is: MC was reincarnated as the son of a rich family. He was haunted by a debt collector ghost bc his father owed a debt of (iirc) 42 silvers to the ghost before he (the ghost) died. The ghost visited MC's father in his dream, and said that he'd make the father pay for the debt after he had spent 42 silvers for raising MC. Not wanting to be haunted, the father sent MC to an isolated house with some maids with 42 silvers for them to use and raise MC. The ghost MC, bc he wanted to take over MC's body once the 42silvers were used. Some stuffs happened, and MC housekeeper was changed to someone who actually cared about him. This housekeeper then took MC and ran away from the family. They later lived in a small village far away from the empire's capital city. The ghost still followed MC, but MC now have an amulet given to him by the housekeeper to help guarding him against bad spirits, so the ghost couldn't get close to him. However, the ghost started causing havoc among the villagers and other people and sucked "yang" energy out of them. It made him grew stronger day by day. Later, when MC was 5 y.o (I think), the ghost attacked him, and almost succeed in killing him, but MC was saved by a boy (15yo I think). This boy (ML) exuded a dragon aura, or something like that, which made ghosts afraid of getting close to him. The boy lived in a temple near MC's village. MC figured that he might have to stick to the boy if he wanted to survive long enough to find a way to destroy the ghost permanently, so he told his housekeeper about his ghost problem and said he would live in the temple with ML from now on. Long short story, MC was later taken as a servant of ML, though he was treated more like a brother/child by ML. Then began their story of growing up together, my memory is fuzzy, but I remember it being cute and fluffy (ML liked to tease MC for being short by trying to bait him with food, then he'd hold it over his head so MC had to literally climb over him to get it lol. ML also spoiled MC rotten, buying him custom-made clothes with the best materials, and giving him so many delicious foods since he knew MC loves to eat). Anyway ML was a prince, but he was accused of killing and raping one of the emperor's harem member, and the emperor exiled him out of the palace, to their current out-of-nowhere village. The emperor is a first class douche really. Once ML and MC had grown up, ML would receive a letter summoning him back to the palace, and he'd take MC with him, by this time MC had learned how to control ghosts. Then some stuffs happened, and MC would help ML to clean name (by summoning the ghost of the dead harem lady), and in the end ML ended up regaining his right and ascend the throne. Then those things in the previous spoiler happened.
2nd Arc starts when MC goes down the mountain. 600 years have passed. A couple is looking for their missing son, and MC decides to help. He uses some magic but finds that no matter what he does, the arrow still points to himself. Thus, he is the missing son (The son had all MC's habits). MC hypothesis was that the person was his reincarnation and when he came down the mountain, that person disappeared to adjust the time paradox. MC is immediately accused of killing two people. In reality, the two "dead people" had run off together and disfigured & killed some other people in their place. When they got caught, they were sentenced to exile. MC's parents this time is doting to a fault, but MC feels no harm in this and has great affection for them. He has a cousin who works next to ML. He and his father secretly hates the MC's family because they are overbearing. So the cousin plots to make them fall from grace by using ML's power. MC's mom dressed him up in ridiculous finery to meet the ML, who is a prince, based on false information spread by the cousin. It doesn't work. ML immediately feels an attachment to the MC and starts petting him; he's anxious about MC leaving him. When everyone sees the irritable prince behave like he's fallen in love at first sight, MC's cousin immediately realizes he has stepped in deep shit. Our prince also realizes what the cousin has been scheming. Edit: Ghost of the day is *drumrolls* Spoiler Has anyone watched Painted Skin Resurrection before? Love this movie. The costume design, martial arts, and special effects is too wonderful! This time the MC is chasing a monster who strips the skin from it's victims to wear and change identities.GT even translates this arc as Painted Skin. It reminds me of the monster in that movie. I think it's the same concept. Doubly so because both are Chinese.
4th Arc: After the Yama Arc, MC becomes a puppy. ML gave essense or something to MC to keep him in the world/protect him. MC comes back as a young boy but is tricked by this old lady and her granddaughter and turns into a puppy. MC is a special breed and when palace servants catch sight of him, they immediately accuse the old lady and her granddaughter of stealing. After all, MC dog breed is not the kind commoners can afford. In the palace, MC spots what looks like our ML and rushes to him. It's not. He has a twin. The real ML is sick and reduced to a wheelchair thanks to helping MC in the Yama Arc. MC is guilt ridden about it and becomes anxious when the Emperor and concubines suggest giving him to the brother. This is because of MC's initial enthusiasm when he thought the twin was the ML. He switches his behavior by growling at the brother, licking and hugging ML, and even crawling under ML's gown(with his meng tail sticking out) when the twin tries to take him.
So apparently, the thing that ML gave up after the Yama Arc had something to do with his destiny, being the King of Stars/King of Kings/Lord of Kings. This is why he has fallen so low and is treated like a tool in 4th Arc. I'm starting to understand some of kiara8 spoilers. Spoiler Update: It turns out the mom and twin brother are poisoning him. This is why he's a cripple. But they are not satisfied until he's dead, so they are still poisioning him. Not sure why mom hates the ML so much. MC collaborates with a ghost to heal ML's legs and poision the mom and brother instead. Before then, there's this terrible scene where the jealous brother gets a fighting mastiff(one that kills people and apparently has been let loose on prisoners). He releases the mastiff on the MC to hurt the ML. MC runs and tries to hide, but this ruthless dog actually starts digging in an attempt to get to him. ML, who only loves/trusts MC starts freaking out. First he calls MC, but MC knows his master is helpless and doesn't want him to be hurt. He runs in the opposite direction instead. The twin, on the other hand, relishes the idea of the mastiff attacking ML. He plans to pass everything off as a mistake regardless of which one gets hurt. But he doesn't realize the Emperor has started suspecting them and has already installed a mole at their side.When the mole tries to help, those bastard servants hold him down, and elect to watch as the ML falls out his wheelchair, crying and crawling in the mud. The ML is 12 years old at this time, I think. Mastiff does try to attack the ML but the MC grabs him by the tail, so that he focuses on him. It's pretty terrible. Now the Emperor is in the know, and I found it extremely satisfying when the servants get what is coming to them. Especially this smug servant planted by the mom. Even when the ML said he would whip her as punishment, she was still sneering inside and mocking him...until ML started whipping and ruining her face.
