I understand where you are coming from, but you also can't ask NU to boycott QI, as, well, there are fans who do use it. It's better not to drag that kind of neutral group in, imo...
Ah, but if we are talking about removing links by QI of WW novels, I think I agree with that at the moment.

I agree QI are playing dirty. It's a shame you could not sneak in a clause in the contracts that allow you to escape such a case, like publishing broken clauses and the like. I hope you learn from this experience that you should mimic the MCs of the novels, just like QI mimics the bad guys in these novels...
I have not even taken a glance in their website yet. I am sure it's useful and all, but I just can't bring myself to like them. They are on the same level (if not worse) than an aggregator site.

 

I understand that Ren is probably just pissed and not helping by publicly asking for NU to help ban Qidian. The problem is that with NU staying quiet about this issue, it isn't doing the community justice.

I have never seen Ren quite this mad. I honestly thought this thread was created by someone else just because it had "shit" in it.

 

This isn't even a grey area.

Unless QI hired WW to translate as a work for hire, then they hold no rights to the translated work. With the right to translate being officially licensed, ownership of the end translation falls solely into the hands of the translator, whom then grant WW the publishing rights.

In a nutshell:

1) WW buys the translation rights from QI.
2)TL's translate the original IP, creating new IP that's owned by the TL.
3)TL licenses the new IP to WW to host.

 

Ahh... I have a friend who wants to know... incase your site vanishes... if at a cetrain buccaneers harbour would I be able to find all novels to read?

Hey ren i am a big fan but a small leecher so i can only help you with my retarded ideas.
Why not become like royal road? You can still translate kr and cr but why not expand the franchise?
Qidian are the overlords in china but not yet in here so you MUST take the chance to expand the wuxiaworld franchise before qidian takes anymore root in here.
My idea is to accept original novels that you judge as worthy of attention , if you do this i believe it will open a whoooole new world of possibilities for you.
My second idea is kinda retarded but i will still say it as it may help you.

Qidian has the advantage in terms of resources, money and most other advantages.
But they dont have the heart and support pf most of this community yet.

They don't even have rights to dmca, do they? They said themselves that wxw has rights to translate, host and collect revenue from ads, as well as make ebooks?
If they are so cool, why don't they remove the "non-disclosure" part from the agreement.

@rwxwuxiaworld Without understanding the terms of the contract (which by itself is confidential) choosing a side is difficult however sneaky be Qidian's actions. As far as a reader is concerned this entire scenario is irrelevant. Also good luck with the court proceedings.

I also am curious if NU is going to do anything about these accounts that are less than a week old, whose only activity is to brigade Qidian threads with positive comments. Its pretty god damn obvious these kind of accounts are created or at least controlled by someone who works for Qidian.

As someone that is heavily WW oriented,(yet not associated with them at all), I'd say that's a fair stance, and is about all one could ask.
