I want a break from fantasy/sf books whose conflict is primarily political and/or military. I’m looking for recommendations of fantasy/sf books featuring wilderness survival and adventure. A bit less "Game of Thrones" and a bit more ... "Swiss Family Robinson" or something. Or think of Robin McKinley's Deerskin, when Lissar and Ash are at the cabin, making broth from old dried meat and onions and potatoes, and gradually coming back to life. Thank kind of thing.

My favorite authors are Tolkien, Gene Wolfe, and John Crowley. Some others I like: Ursula LeGuin, Guy Gavriel Kay, Kim Stanley Robinson.

This is an old thread. I recommend creating new thread instead, also if you found novel you liked on novelupdates consider checking featured lists. It may bring desired results faster

Hey, good taste in writers! You could go back to the old classics like "the Mysterious Island" or "a Princess of Mars". Of course if you're into Burroughs and planetary romance, his later Barsoom books would fit a bit better but it's nice to start from the beginning.
