You don't seem to get my point. The problem here is not the death of loved ones, but to kill them solely in order to have character progression from the MC. It feels cheap and stupid.

i don't like it when people write cliff hangers but tangent off to a different path for more than 10 chapters. by the time you're back to the original it loses its thrill

Here's how your previous post could've been interpreted: The plot involves a main character getting revenge for his family after they were murdered etc. Basically, it's a revenge story. The author then uses their death to further develop the main character. What's wrong with this? Here's what you were actually saying: The author is killing off characters solely to change the main character, but their deaths has no bearing on the plot. How is this pretty clear?

But an example of acceptable for me NTR is Chikyuu Tenseisha no Koroshikata. Here MC seduces other guys' harem members, leading to the girls cheating on their heroes
