Registration | OOC Room | Free RP | Mission Board | Reports Brave New World is an RP based on the novel Lord of the Mysteries which plays in a Victorian-era world that has recently discovered a new continent named Rafasa that contains ways to gain supernatural powers. The players will be members of the Rafasa Liberation Movement (RLM), a “terrorist” organization on this new continent Rafasa that aims to establish a nation free of the influence of the large nations. In the game, players complete missions for the RLM, fighting against the large nations, other factions of the RLM, or supernatural monsters. Please do make sure to read the first posts of each thread before posting in them, as they'll explain how said thread is supposed to work. ------------------------------------------------------- The setting: With steam-based technology on the rise, the nations of the world have discovered a new continent called Rafasa far across the ocean. With unclaimed land available in this conflict-riddled world, all eyes turn towards this new continent. In a bid to gain control over it, each nation sends its naval forces out, establishing colonies along the coast and fighting various skirmishes on the sea and Rafasa’s coast. With no one being a clear winner but resources and space abundant, the colonization efforts increase and even those wishing to gain independence sneak towards this new world. The discovery of strange flora and fauna which, in certain combinations, can grant supernatural powers finally turns this colonization into a mad frenzy as all nations focus most of their attention on Rafasa. But this new power might break the frail balance between the colonies, and the distanced nations may not be able to remain in control. You are one of the people that has come to this continent in hopes of creating a new nation free from the tyrannic yoke of the old nations and have joined the Rafasa Liberation Movement in order to fulfill this dream. Once a person has drunk a potion, he is said to have become a Beyonder of that pathway. The characters can progress in power by consuming the next potion of the corresponding pathway once they have digested the previous one. A potion can be digested by acting according to certain rules hidden in the name of the potion. One can always act with the powers one has newly gained. Examples for already existing pathways are those used in the novel Lord of the Mysteries, which this RP is based on. Players are allowed to have their character be of any pathway that has complete information on the rituals and powers gained up to Sequence 4. One does not need to know the novel to play, however. Also, please keep in mind that the pathways, while starting at 9 and going down in LotM, start at 1 here and go up. Players can also create custom pathways and apply to have them in the game. This is an example of a custom pathway: Spoiler: Example Pathway Level 1: Rogue Abilities: Increased general physical prowess most notably in agility, dexterity, and flexibility. Instinct and perception sharpen. Awaken the power of Shadowflip, currently provide stealth in the dark. Acting: A mischievous knave, providing service at the grey area in the edge of law and morality. Is highly perceptive on human behavior. Level 2: Woodswraith Abilities: Same physical and mental boost. Gain the ability to imbue toxic properties onto weapons at hand. Acting: A rogue is bound to civilization. A woodswraith take a step further, able to survive - and even thrive - in untamed wilderness. Able to identify and raises edible and poisonous vegetations, brew herbal concoction, and creating makeshift tools from what's available. Level 3: Killer Abilities: Gain the power of Vertigo, to reverse the effect of gravity at will. Only affect self and anyone in direct touch. Shadowflip improve to allow clinging on vertical surfaces in the dark. Acting: The riskier the deal, the better the payout. Step into the unquestionably dark path of trading lives for coins, and for the thrill of the process. Gain knack for striking vital spots. Level 4: Assassin Abilities: Gain the power of Hardlight, creating transparent platforms anywhere within a short distance of the user. These platforms have fixed size and shape, and are brittle enough to be shattered with a strong blow. Acting: An assassin goes beyond a killer, slipping into the most airtight place to claim a life and leave unseen. Gain a sensitivity to split-second timing on when to strike. Level 5: Split Swordsman Abilities: Gain the power of Dart, enhancing one's footstep with short burst of speed as well as directional change without needing any tangible footing. A split swordsman have all the skill of an assassin that is polished for actual combat, weaving in and out unpredictably and finish the contract even after one is spotted by the target. Some people are just impossible to catch off-guard, after all. Acting: Beyond striking vitals, also foresee several sequential steps ahead in order to create and make use of openings instead of only waiting for one to present itself. Level 6: Spectre Abilities: Able to morph into a semi-intangible denizen of darkness. Shadowflip allows self and unresisting creatures to sink into any patch of darkness, as well as storing and controlling weapons inside. All of it gain a powerful toxic properties, and victims struck may be afflicted with Vertigo which lingered for a time even when contact is broken. In similar vein Dart may be applied to stored weapons, allowing them to suddenly accelerate and to some extent change trajectory. Hardlight may change properties from being blade-thin to turn into the jarringly visible and highly resilient Redshift barrier. Acting: To vanquish those beyond the mortal limit, one have to transcend the mortal limit. Continue the path by taking down demigods, by any means necessary. Gain a near-total perception of everything in significant radius especially if shrouded in shadows, and the capability to semi-autonomously control a large amount of stored armaments. The technological level of the world is in industrialization, with complex machines being new inventions. The Pathways have also only been discovered on this new continent, and have no presence on the old continents. ----------------------------------------- Character Creation: Your character starts as a new recruit in the RLM that has just consumed the first potion of a pathway. Your characters can have done any job before, but are not allowed to have more than 30 pounds on them. Please also have your character be a normal person of the world, meaning no transmigration or things like that. In addition, having some sort of special connection to high-level existences is prohibited. Sequence means the sequence of the pathway your character currently is at. Digestion is obtained by acting according to the potion’s rules. This can be done either in missions or in free RP, though details will follow in the corresponding threads. For the appearance, if you can provide an image, it's better than having it as a description. In case you do have an image, you can just put it at the start of the template. Inventory should have the stuff you're carrying with you on a day-to-day basis, while storage should have the stuff you leave in your inn room or house or the RLM storage.
