Given the recent pedophilic and sexual assault revelations that mirror media. Do people still believe media does not affect behavior? PS Dies Irae, is it a high school anime? I feel cheated after watching Episode 0 and thinking it was about adults. I hate watching high school based anime or dramas
The statement "the media does not influence behavior" is as false as the statement "video games promote violence"
Media is usually filled with dark fantasies. Something people fantasize about that is illegal in real life. A point comes when people what to emulate, bring fantasy into reality The video game does not promote violence is a myth. Domestic violence is on the rise(or just reported more) @JackStone
Does media influence behavior sure, but here is one thing that people fail to realize. Humanity in general is actually in the most peaceful period of time according to statistics. If you pay attention to the news it seems like the world is falling apart, and there are plenty of critical issues, but overall crime has gone down. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_...nd_lines_reveal_an_increasingly_peaceful.html
Umm, no, it's not that media perverts the people it is the fact that positions of power perverts them since this is often done as a way of showing dominance and not just "Let's bang". As for you saying video games not promoting violence is a myth because domestic violence is on the rise (is it?) Is a fallacy because you aren't using any data or studies about the human brain. Video games are just is a way to relax for most people there is only in the end a small percentage that can get their reality so warped that they can do those crimes in the real world because of it.
When i created a thread about Lollicon in anime is actually a social disaster, many people berate me and saying that it's just an anime/manga and it won't affect your social behaviour... Now look who's talking! Here's the thread btw : this
media is government ways to control people behavior, especially TV news. look at cold war at america history they've been programmed to not trust Russia.
The problem is is that the higher ups of these companies, the CEO's and administrators, directors and the like are all old (40+ years). They grew up in a time when women were still seen as goods instead of equals. Their behavior reflects this, as does their change in attitudes over the years. Many of these charges are only coming forward after ten or twenty years have already passed because of the change in perception and public openness of the topic. Otherwise no one would say anything, because back then it was considered normal, if not morally right. Even then estimates are that 2 out of every 5 'victims' that step forward do so for only one goal: MONEY. Because they can get a big shield in the form of class-action lawsuits, they don't have to stand alone and yet still get a cut of the pie after all is said and done. Right or wrong, justice is only part of it. Even today we run across those sleazy sort of men and women, and when those men and women have power and wealth, it only becomes bigger. It's part of human nature to flaunt themselves as such.
Anybody who says media doesnt effect anything is lying through his teeth. But it is not the definit cause. Missedducation and lack of parenting has more impact than anything. I for one do not believe sex education should be taught in school, or should schools distribute condoms. I believe parents have to teach sex education to their kids. People should revert back using sex as a foundation of a family, not just a way to have fun. And I am very worried about my kids. Back when i was young, kids would have to jump through hoops to see porn. Now its readily available, not to mention explicit lyrics in music and sex scenes in pg movies.
I disagree. A good example is the one with the female swimmer. They have been coming out for years over 20 years and no one listened to them and they did not get media coverage so we never really heard about it. It has nothing to do with money. I used to think I could empathize with people but until you have gotten through actual sexual assault to me, you have no sway for me.
Today some people when they hear or see someting bad they just go to social media and post "pray for ______ " then move on with life.
Nonsense. Your premise is ridiculous. You are drawing conclusions that satisfy your beliefs, rather than following actual facts. This revelation of sexual assaults in the entertainment industry (not new news by the way) doesn't make this theory any more credible
This type of crimes are not recent it is just that you just got exposed to that kind information. Do I believe that media affects behavior? We don't have any significant data present to even make bold statements like these but it does have biases that may warp an individual's perception if they use only one source for their information. I can only recommend that people use multiple sources to confirm their informations and don't blindly follow and parrot information they get from the news they see and read.
